I’ve done them many ways quick pickles , fermented , etc. keep coming back to the way my uncle used to make them.
Kirby cukes
6c h2o
6c white vinegar
5Tbsp pickling salt
About a Tbsp of pickling spice
Tbsp sugar
Some dill fresh or freeze dried ~1tsp
About a head of garlic cloves smashed
Leave on counter for 3 days with loose lid then refrigerate And that’s it
Sometimes I’ll add hot pepper to spice it upEventually I’ll have to get a more precise recipe
Not sure how long they’re good for but they usually get eaten within a week.Need to find a good recipe for half sour pickles.
Surg how many cucumbers or pounds does your recipe pickle?

The garden is coming along slowly. I finally have tomatoes on the vine on my Early Girl plant. The deer and rabbits are causing havoc this year. Most of my okra and about a half row of beans disappeared this week.
GWG8541 That looks really good. Yes, we have had the same issue with Okra this year, which is strange because normally nothing really bothers Okra. I have had to supplementally plant it twice now with also some new ones in pots to get them hardened off more, perhaps, before they are subject to the abuse.

mrobisr I think this did around 20 cukes. And probably could’ve fit maybe 10 more.

kyle How big is your garden? When I lived in Hawaii, there was a pumpkin contest. The pumpkin’s took over my yard. I brought in a 200lbs pumpin. Big fun. It was all for an agriculture project in the end. The winner was well over 300lbs.

scottfletcher the main garden is about 30’x 30’. We also have several other smaller ones for veggies plus she has several flower beds around the yard. Keeps us busy

kyle That can keep us busy. I can’t imagine the spring without the stress. Worried about weather and the critters. The bounty with canning or preserving is worth all the effort. I try to up my game with growing every year. Like finding your favorite sausage recipe.

Not so good today folks, one of our dogs just died suddenly. I found her un-responsive in the back yard after she had been upstairs with her ball. She was only almost 4 years old. I am feeling pretty low right now and my wife is in tears. Had to find someplace to vent.

I plant them now, but I will not dig them until next spring. They tastes so much better when you let them freeze in the ground

Has anyone ever replanted strawberries? My wife and I made the mistake of planting strawberries in the same little patch as my sugar snap peas and they are both expanding at alarming rates. We were thinking of letting it just ride out this year and fixing it next but its getting a little ridiculous.

I plant them now, but I will not dig them until next spring. They tastes so much better when you let them freeze in the ground
kyle I do the same thing. Have had trouble finding the perfect time to plant. Went a couple years with little result. This year I planted when I saw the first asparagus spear. Had the best germination rate I’ve had in years. Problem is waiting until next spring for the reward.

Jonathon They replant very easily, just keep them watered. They usually won’t produce the year they are transplanted.

Jonathon Yes, we have planted a patch before & they did OK. Then we started planting them in the tops of rain barrels & it was nice. But THEN, they hopped out of the rain barrels & into the foundation beds, with all the pine straw, & took off. So now we have them as ground cover so to say, making there way through the foundation beds. It is a near perfect environment & berries fairly regularly. I don’t know why I never thought of it until it hit me in the face looking out the bathroom window into one of the foundation beds…
