lkrfletcher Isn’t that the truth, it amazes me how fast food is so ingrained in our society. When I was young the only time we ate at a place like that was when we were traveling. For a while I was as guilty as anyone to the fast food trend, now we hardly ever eat there, except again while traveling.

bocephus Yeah, if you don’t pack a lunch you have to plan for a couple stops…one for the drive through and then another shortly after for the aftermath!

Ridley Acres That is true, if I don’t pack a sandwich or two, I try to eat a chicken sandwich while travelling, seems to not cause problems.

I made some beef fajita meat with onions and a jalapeno, sometimes simplicity wins out.

A little bean soup with ham and some skillet cornbread. I topped off the beans with the home canned Cowboy Candy for a little heat. It must be the Hillbilly DNA, but I love beans and cornbread.

GWG8541 Looks good, whenever we have bone in ham, I can count on bean soup, the jalapenos are a bonus. I pickle some but have never made cowboy candy, but it is on my todo list for next fall.

bocephus they are worth doing. I pickle also. The cowboy candy gets better with time.

So not only does he get to go a fair amount throughout the hunting season. Her parents go a lot, so they are always giving them birds.

Another soup day for lunch catching up on the honey do list from hunting last week. My beautiful wife requested chili, so deer chilli it is. I started with cooking onion and garlic in the pot and then putting in the ground venison to brown it. I added the onions and garlic back in and added the secret ingredient, home canned tomato juice. Ill hate it when I run out of this stuff for the season.
You Texas chili guys may want to look away, I not only add chili beans (red beans), I add black beans as well. One more thing I like to add is finely diced mushrooms. With venison it blends well. Topped it with cheddar and fresh diced onion. I cooked a new batch of cornbread because both of my sons destroyed yesterday’s batch.

GWG8541 I like chili with beans or without, if I am going to have chili dogs I prefer without. Of course, if you are in NM people laugh at those types of chilis. Here it is chile and it is red or green and it is a sauce.
