What did everyone cook today?

GWG8541 Looks good, whenever we have bone in ham, I can count on bean soup, the jalapenos are a bonus. I pickle some but have never made cowboy candy, but it is on my todo list for next fall.

bocephus they are worth doing. I pickle also. The cowboy candy gets better with time.

A little bean soup with ham and some skillet cornbread. I topped off the beans with the home canned Cowboy Candy for a little heat. It must be the Hillbilly DNA, but I love beans and cornbread.

A little preview of today’s mid day football watching, other random stuff on Sunday snack…A buddy of mine gave me this package.

processhead There are some pellet holes in the meat, it just wouldn’t be right if the meat was all clean!

HerbcoFood Must be a good friend, I treasure any pheasants I get, but have been known to give a few a way to very good friends.

bocephus Yeah we are good buddies and do meat trades pretty often, the girl who he is dating comes from a family who loves bird hunting. So not only does he get to go a fair amount throughout the hunting season. Her parents go a lot, so they are always giving them birds.

HerbcoFood Sounds like he has found a good woman, we always tell the young unmarried guys in our deer hunting group, it is just as easy to love a woman with good hunting land.

HerbcoFood I’m with bocephus on this issue. Tell the young man if she has a fishing boat he needs to marry her ASAP.

Another soup day for lunch catching up on the honey do list from hunting last week. My beautiful wife requested chili, so deer chilli it is. I started with cooking onion and garlic in the pot and then putting in the ground venison to brown it. I added the onions and garlic back in and added the secret ingredient, home canned tomato juice. Ill hate it when I run out of this stuff for the season.
You Texas chili guys may want to look away, I not only add chili beans (red beans), I add black beans as well. One more thing I like to add is finely diced mushrooms. With venison it blends well. Topped it with cheddar and fresh diced onion. I cooked a new batch of cornbread because both of my sons destroyed yesterday’s batch.

GWG8541 I like chili with beans or without, if I am going to have chili dogs I prefer without. Of course, if you are in NM people laugh at those types of chilis. Here it is chile and it is red or green and it is a sauce.

GWG8541 I’m a Texas guy, but I’ve never been known to conform so I’ll eat chili with or without beans, looks great.

Here is it, buttermilk chicken fried pheasant using Excalibur’s Nashville Hot Rub, then I drizzled some of RafterW raw and unfiltered Kansas honey over it. My daughter thought it was chicken, then again she is 6. Solid solid solid mid day snack.

GWG8541 I will never make chili with beans, just one of those things I will always be by the book guy. If I go to someone’s house and they is what they are serving then I will eat it. If I have to have beans in chili I prefer pinto beans opposed to any other bean. There is my 2.5cents unwarranted opinion!
