    We’ve gone nuts literally! With fall comes the walnut harvest and beating the squirrels out of them (they also destroy the tree). Of course my two dogs and pellet pistol make short work of that problem here lately. We have harvest about one third of what’s left, it will take a few more weeks for the rest to drop or a good wind storm. Lots of work to pick them up, hull the ones that are still intact, clean them then put them out to dry a bit. That’s almost 15 gallons drying on the deck. The worst part is shelling them. As you can see from the pictures, there are quite a few already, more sitting on the ground waiting to be cleaned and still more on the tree. IMG_0223.JPG IMG_0224.JPG

        johnsbrewhouse & am still behind on cracking last years Pecans! I used to get them all done during the winter.

                      YooperDog grey squirrels, they were pushed into our area when they clear cut a training area on the military base just down the road. They told everyone they were restoring the oak prairies when they did it. They drove all the animals off their natural habitat so now the scrounge for food and aren’t that fat.

                            GWG8541 Okay, I’ll confess, this c oon a s s has never had squirrel. How about posting a recipe. Along with that, how to process a squirrel. I sit on my patio with my pellet riffle and get about 3 to 10 a week. Been just throwing them into the garbage can.

                                  Squirrels? I refer to them as tree rats. Don’t care for them. Have heard the tails are popular to those who are into fly tying.

                                      Chef They go into the compost bin at my house, where they go after that I have no control. It either fertilizer in the spring or the coyotes, red tail hawk or owls pick them up. All I know they don’t steal nuts and the dogs don’t have to stand watch under the tree all the time. I have the squirrels trained now as soon as I come out with the pellet pistol, they are looking for a quick exit ahead of the dogs or the pellet.

                                          Jonathon mine are far from looking like that. They are skinny and get plenty of exercise from the dogs chasing them down the fence line and out of the yard. One of these days my females will get one, she catches rabbits
