I’m fortunate in that, while I like wheated bourbons, they aren’t my favorites. Don’t get me wrong, now. I like them, and I’m not likely to turn any of them down, but I can live without them for long periods of time (and I surely am not going to pay what many of them are going for these days). When it comes to bourbon whiskey, I tend to prefer something with barley and rye and little (or no) wheat. That’s more my style. In fact, if I had to spend the rest of my life drinking only Four Roses (even just the yellow label) Jim Beam (even just the white label), or Evan Williams (especially the bottled-in-bond) as the only bourbons I could have for the rest of my life, I’d live a mighty fine life.

In fact, I tend to prefer rye whiskey over bourbon. While a handful of folks have gotten all worked up about a handful of rye whiskeys, prices and availability otherwise haven’t been terribly affected by hype. Regarding Sazerac, I’ve always liked it, but my mind boggles at why it suddenly became so expensive and hard to find. Bizarre.

In fact, I’ve preferred Scotch whisky over bourbon for several years, now. With limited exceptions that mostly are in the $200+ bottle family (that I want little or no part of), prices have been more affected by tariffs than hype. Yeah, I’ve lost a couple age statement favorites (like Laphroaig 18), and Highland Park isn’t what it used to be, but I’m quite happy with what’s around.

TexLaw It’s fantastic that you found your “sweet spot”. My stash includes the gamut from wheateds to high rye bourbons, Irish, rye and barley whiskeys, a number of low to high end scotches, and and and. It’s nice that due to the stash, I will not usually purchase overpriced stuff unless it’s for a very special gift. There’s tooooo much out there that’s reasonably priced, great for sitting around a fire with friends and just enjoying life. Have a great rest of your day.

We’re allocated 44cs a month for the 10yr Eagle Rare. They all ship as backorders. Next months allocation is already sold and so on and so on every month. Same with Buffalo Trace, Blanton’s, E.H. Taylor etc. I’ll be stunned if we get any Van Winkle this year!

PapaSop Just wondering. What state do you live? But, you’re correct on the crazy world of bourbon these days. BTW: All the one’s you mention (except Blanton’s) are a very good pour. Have fun your last two years and stock up well for the better times.

PapaSop I honored your state yesterday by locating some cheese curds and frying them up using 3 recipes posted by 3 organizations/people from your state. Not a bad product. Will do it again. I’ve been in all states and 20-30 different countries. Every province/state/region has their specialties. Yours from what I can remember has great beer, cheese, various dairy products, cranberries and a plethora of the German and Scandinavian neighborhoods/foods. Hopefully I hit the high points. What’s not good about any of THAT?

Amen to that. Thank you. Cheese curds are like a staple around here. The beers, cheese, sausage, supper clubs and Old Fashioneds are who we are.

Damn… You’re some kind of world traveler. Awesome!

That dam sensor… Hmm, that worked. 😉

Tex_77 Both very good choices. The maker’s for sippin’ and the Bullett for manhattan’s. What’s not to like. Enjoy your evening.

                            Mezcal is certainly gaining popularity

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day
Teach a man to fish and he drinks beer for a lifetime

Goose island stout that is 14.7%! Figured I’d drink this tonight and not during tomorrow’s podcast or who knows what I’d give away?

I have been off the grid since Halloween, not a call in or out. Just got lucky tonight, a 4G one bar in the middle of CW TX. No power or running water.Better call my better half if this signal last, not a sound except crickets and coyotes. A blazing mesquite fire and a new bottle.IMG_20201108_220659744.jpg

Tex_77 sharing some of that rye in the middle of nowhere CW TX. Goes great with peace and quiet and being off the grid.

Jonathon s request, please list your drink of choice. I’ll start, I love bourbon and Coors Light or a good old Coors yellow belly. My bourbons of choice are Elijah Craig, Bulliet, Maker’s Mark, Jim Beam Black and W.L. Wellers. Now if I just want to pound down some drinks a good 7&7 can’t be beat.

Tex_77 I scored a bottle of the 12 year Weller the other day. Not too shabby!
