What did everyone cook today?

Picked some apples today so decided to make a couple of apple pies for the season since it’s getting cold. We had a light frost yesterday morning and expecting a freeze on Tuesday, so trying to clean everything up and get it out of the garden areas. The pies are cooling right now, might have a bite in a bit.

johnsbrewhouse Pies look great, we have an abundance of Granny Smith apples, my wife has been making apple bread, sauce and butter, no pies yey but on the list.

bocephus We only got four Granny Smith’s this year, that tree is usually loaded. It didn’t like being trimmed but it was one that had to be pruned pretty heavily this year since we had a problem with it almost falling over last year with overload of fruit, mole undermining the roots and a wet snow load.

Austin what kind of utensil do you have there?
-
Tex_77 wow! That looks great!!!

Tex_77 It is a Zootility Wildcard knife and multi-tool. Super thin and size of a credit card so it fits in my wallet. Got one early this year, and it is probably my favorite knife I have since it fits in my wallet. I strangely use it for eating a lot when out and on the go.

Back from camping and back to reality. I enjoyed some great food with the family the past several days. I’ve included some pictures if my contributions to the family meals.
This past weekend was the State Park Campground’s Halloween weekend camp out. It has been a family and friends tradition of ours for about 4 decades. My brother, one of my sisters, my family and some old friends were part of it this years.
We took up 5 campsites and a cabin. Unfortunately this weekend the Crappie were not cooperating, so no good fish pics. I will start with Friday’s meal, which were all over wood fire.
Breakfast, yes that is Spam and eggs with toast. Its a long story, but has become part of the tradition.

Lunch was deer brats I made using Walton’s Blue Ribbon brat seasoning and adding some of my ground homemade Chipotle for a little kick.

Dinner was a Hunter’s Pie made in my CI Dutch Oven using 5lbs of ground venison.

Saturday we call the big breakfast. My brother and I get up and start it at sun up. The menu was bacon, sausage with gravy, biscuits, country ham, pancakes. The plate was mine after cooking all morning on the griddle.

Saturday dinner is pot luck. My contribution was ND Mike Chocolate Cherry dump cake and every bit disappeared. I had to improvise a little after leaving my Hershey’s Special dark chocolate chips at home. I had the big pack of Hershey bars for Smores and chopped up 4 bars instead. I also added Dr. Pepper Cherry instead of Coke. It was awesome.

Great weekend with family and friends. Happy Halloween!
