I picked about a quart of raspberries, both red and black early this morning. I tossed a few handfuls on some oatmeal for breakfast.

GWG8541 good looking berries. Congrats

This weekend I dug 1/2 of my potatoes and pulled 1/2 of my onions. They both turned out really good. Iโve been enjoying my carrots and cucumbers but the problem is now the lettuce and spinach is burned up. I guess you canโt have it all. Good luck to the rest of you gardeners.

cdavis I agree, thatโs a nice harvest.

wdaly thanks. Iโll harvest the other half this weekend.

Just curious. I have an abundance of purslane taking over my garden. Have research the nutritional value of this plant so finally decided to try it. Had anyone else eaten this weed? I tried two ways. 1) sauteed with some garlic and soy sauce, and 2) sauteed with some onion, garlic, tomato sauce and then simmered with rice. Both were pretty good.

wdaly I usually give mine a good dose of 2-4D

Tex_77 I gave up trying to control it anyway but pulling. If you till or hoe it, each plant becomes 100 plants. Figured what the Heck. Might as well try eating it. University of Nebraska Extension did a spot on it and said itโs pretty high in nutrition. It didnโt kill me over night so I guess thatโs good.

wdaly I have a lot of that but didnt know what it was. I will have to look in to it.

wdaly Ah NO!!! Itโs not that I wouldnโt like. Itโs a โI didnโt knowโ or โthat question never surfacedโ. Itโs not a subject (horticulture) that Iโm well versed in. Thanks for letting me achieve my goal of โlearning one new thing each dayโ. My only question is: does it have any particular โtaste profileโ?

wdaly very interesting! Iโve seen purslane on lists of edible plants for survival and such, but this is the first Iโve seen someone cook it up! That is darn cool of you to try!

zbigjeff Itโs funny stuff. The stuff I harvested out of the garden is pretty mild. If you harvest it out of concrete cracks, it has a lot of citrus taste. Must be the heat, but two distinct tastes.

Im gonna take a picture of the weed I thought you all were talking about and give you a good laugh. Luckily I looked up a picture of purslane before trying this at home!

Here tonightโs purslane offering. This is the one make with tomato sauce.

wdaly I have heard of this for a long time & have tried many things & used to regularly eat or drink some things that they are now saying is not good. I have never tried this though, but there is a lot of it our there. We are going to have to try it before long. Thank you.

wdaly that looks tasty
. I would try it on appearance alone. I have never heard of it before now. -
Had my first fresh corn
from the garden. It was really good but about a week or 10 days from being fully mature. Getting lots of cucumbers and 5 or 6 tomatoes
a day now. Man itโs great to be eating out of the garden again.

cdavis Very nice looking garden, not much better than fresh vegetables that you have grown.

cdavis Man Iโm jealous. So far I just have radishes and turnip greens. Iโm ready for corn, cukes, and tomatoes. Should have summer squash when I get back after the 4th.

cdavis I miss that adventure. The taste out of the garden vs the store bought is at least 10 times better. Great looking yield.
