Gardening, canning, pickling and everything related

wdaly Ah NO!!! It’s not that I wouldn’t like. It’s a “I didn’t know” or “that question never surfaced”. It’s not a subject (horticulture) that I’m well versed in. Thanks for letting me achieve my goal of “learning one new thing each day”. My only question is: does it have any particular “taste profile”?
zbigjeff It’s funny stuff. The stuff I harvested out of the garden is pretty mild. If you harvest it out of concrete cracks, it has a lot of citrus taste. Must be the heat, but two distinct tastes.

Im gonna take a picture of the weed I thought you all were talking about and give you a good laugh. Luckily I looked up a picture of purslane before trying this at home!
-
Here tonight’s purslane offering. This is the one make with tomato sauce.
-
Just curious. I have an abundance of purslane taking over my garden. Have research the nutritional value of this plant so finally decided to try it. Had anyone else eaten this weed? I tried two ways. 1) sauteed with some garlic and soy sauce, and 2) sauteed with some onion, garlic, tomato sauce and then simmered with rice. Both were pretty good.

wdaly I have heard of this for a long time & have tried many things & used to regularly eat or drink some things that they are now saying is not good. I have never tried this though, but there is a lot of it our there. We are going to have to try it before long. Thank you.

wdaly that looks tasty
. I would try it on appearance alone. I have never heard of it before now. -
Had my first fresh corn
from the garden. It was really good but about a week or 10 days from being fully mature. Getting lots of cucumbers and 5 or 6 tomatoes
a day now. Man it’s great to be eating out of the garden again.

cdavis Very nice looking garden, not much better than fresh vegetables that you have grown.

cdavis Man I’m jealous. So far I just have radishes and turnip greens. I’m ready for corn, cukes, and tomatoes. Should have summer squash when I get back after the 4th.

cdavis I miss that adventure. The taste out of the garden vs the store bought is at least 10 times better. Great looking yield.

cdavis love watching corn grow and love eating fresh corn on the cob even more. I didn’t do corn this year.

I got my first maters today. Its from my one “Early Girl” plant that was pot planted inside before the rest of the garden. Its loaded with fruit right now and the others aren’t far behind.

GWG8541 Very nice! I’m waiting to pick some early peppers myself.

cdavis Those cukes are going to town. I would like to get the production I used to get so I could put away a good bushel of pickles. Nothing like that fresh corn from the garden, but I quit growing it a long time ago. Made some watermelon pickles though a week or so ago. Just got back from a serious run to town for supplies. Maybe I will make some more soon. Keep on growing.

GWG8541 really nice maters for a good mater samwich. Ours are just about puckered out for the Summer, but Okra & peppers finally starting to come on strong for a change.

GWG8541 Those look great. I have not been able to grow any decent San Marzanos or Romas in several years like we used to for making homemade spaghetti sauce & canning. Just too darn hot anymore it seems & humid. The Amelias have ended up doing the best as they like the heat more better, but are not the best for canning & we don’t have enough because I keep trying to grow the standards we grew so well in the past.
