Another soup day for lunch catching up on the honey do list from hunting last week. My beautiful wife requested chili, so deer chilli it is. I started with cooking onion and garlic in the pot and then putting in the ground venison to brown it. I added the onions and garlic back in and added the secret ingredient, home canned tomato juice. Ill hate it when I run out of this stuff for the season.
You Texas chili guys may want to look away, I not only add chili beans (red beans), I add black beans as well. One more thing I like to add is finely diced mushrooms. With venison it blends well. Topped it with cheddar and fresh diced onion. I cooked a new batch of cornbread because both of my sons destroyed yesterday’s batch.

Here is it, buttermilk chicken fried pheasant using Excalibur’s Nashville Hot Rub, then I drizzled some of RafterW raw and unfiltered Kansas honey over it. My daughter thought it was chicken, then again she is 6. Solid solid solid mid day snack.

GWG8541 I will never make chili with beans, just one of those things I will always be by the book guy. If I go to someone’s house and they is what they are serving then I will eat it. If I have to have beans in chili I prefer pinto beans opposed to any other bean. There is my 2.5cents unwarranted opinion!

A little bean soup with ham and some skillet cornbread. I topped off the beans with the home canned Cowboy Candy for a little heat. It must be the Hillbilly DNA, but I love beans and cornbread.

Venison and mushroom pot pie, that isn’t gravy that I made and added in, it’s just a nice long reduction of the broth and wine, while everything became super tender. I actually served this over some sautéed sweet potatoes.
