Chef I think it is a great idea. Jonathon plate has space left on it. I think Austin could get could add that on. LOL

It would be a bit of an undertaking though. I too miss those old church cookbooks. We have several and some of the recipes are pretty darn interesting.

YooperDog Wasn’t expecting Jonathon or Austin to take this on. I would love to collect the recipes, do the legwork to get the publisher, and get the job done. Just would want at least one person to proof the final product.

HerbcoFood Some are so bad, they are funny. I can’t imagine anyone from Meatgistics submitting a bad recipe.

PapaSop Does that mean you volunteer to help edited the book and cook some of the recipes???

Chef those two are busier than a one armed paper hanger. I was just poking some fun with them. There is a bit of work to getting a cookbook project completed and think it is a great idea. There are a lot of great recipes shared here and plenty of worthy causes that can use some assistance.

YooperDog I know you are just poking fun, after all, just how hard could it be for Jonathon and Austin to go to work, play sausage, drink beer, chat on the computer, fish in your own pond,…

Seriously, I know it will be some work, but I really would be happy to take such a project on.

I think a bio of some of the major players would also be fun, showing the diversity of a group that come together to help each other learn how to select the proper drink, eat healthy food, and the list goes on…

I dont know how all that publishing stuff works. Maybe some church or something would help for a cut of the profit. Another thought is Waltons must have a publisher for their catalog. Ok, one last thought is why couldn’t it be on our community site, just recipes in a good easy to read format without all the B.S.ing we all like to do

Austin and I have discussed this a little in the past. We figured that there would be a small market for it but maybe there is more than we thought? kyle I’d agree on it being Meatgistics based. If you want a recipe to enter it would be submitted to the User Recipes section and then they would be collected from there?

I love the idea… but I think it would have to be a series of book dedicated dealing with different subjects such as Meatgistics Charcuterie (ground and whole muscles), Meatgistics Fresh Sausage from around the world, Meatgistics Community Cookbook (where we share all our favorite recipes). I think there should be a voting system for each of the recipes to go in the book. What I mean by that is each recipes would need to be vetted by the community and voted on

HerbcoFood If a physical cookbook is not possible, maybe a Waltons section where the recipes could be adapted (if possible) with ingredients found on the website with hyperlinks to the products. This could help drive product sales but also may drive the development of some additional seasoning blends. If Austin and Jonathon are on board they could drive those recipes with some incentives as they do for posting on Meatgistics?? If the recipe gets 25 likes, 50 likes, 100 likes, 250 likes, 500 likes etc…

A Meatgistics minimum upvote to get the recipe put in the section and a Meatgistics & WWW votes for incentives. I would also offer that if there was a way that the likes could be combined with Walton product redirects and sales. I think the logistics of tracking where the buyer comes from may be next to impossible, but a “click-bait” to the product may not be too hard to track.

As advanced as Waltons seems to be internet SEOs I am sure they could make sure that Google search pops our recipes at the top of the search when someone is looking for a DIY Salami or Brat or Meat Stick or… Smoked Mac and Cheese, Authentic Jambalaya (could hyperlink another contributor recipe for andouille sausage, tasso etc…)

Jonathon Didn’t mean for this to get too complicated. I thought this could be just a fun project.

There obliviously needs to be an editor. That could be a Walton’s employee, but frankly doesn’t need to be. There are companies that specialize in publishing cookbooks just like this and the truth is it’s an easy process. I would doubt that the company that print your catalog have experience in such a cookbook.

I have stated that I would be willing to take the lead in this project if you and Austin would like to do so. Never intended this to add to the workload you already have.

While I realize that there are some recipes that need to be reviewed, there would be many that could be published without going through a complicated process. An experience cook could easily determine if a recipe was publishable or require editing.

I would hope that this possible project not turn into a complicated procedure and that it could be just a fun collection of Meatgistics users favorite meals to eat.

This is becoming populated with some great recipes. Maybe if we get enough we could put out a Meatgistics cookbook. Like one of those plastic binders books that many groups and churches have. Profits could even go to some charity.

I bet the gals and guys would post for a worthy effort. There are so many great cooks in Meatgistics.

And, it would be one way we could preserve many family recipes for the future - we don’t want them loss for ever.

So guys, what do you think???

I’d like a physical cookbook. I would think waltons would be able to market it with some success. You wouldn’t have to go overboard with branding it as meatgistics users recipes, it could be a “waltons customers cookbook” and just credit the recipe author with their meatgistics handle or something.

Pick your major categories and vote on user recipes, agreed.

cdavis I would guess it would mainly be the members that are interested, and it would have similar sentimental value to the church cookbooks back in the day.

Ridley Acres My only argument against it being a “reward” is that it probably should be accessible to everyone and I don’t want a mix of buy/reward thing because that waters down the value of the reward. Chef No worries on it being too complicated, I mean, it definitely will be complicated but it is good job security to keep my guys busy! We have a graphics manager who does all of our catalogs and ads so he would be a natural for this.

Sounds like everyone should get their recipes in to be published. I can see a volume 2 in a few years. Jonathan you might want to have the person doing this put a bookmark on the last recipe published so it would be easy to start a new volume.

What a great idea maybe the profits could go to teaching kids to hunt fish and trap that might help change this world to when I grew up it was a better place then
