GWG8541 Went to store today and they were sold out. I was so disappointed that I bought a basil Hayden toast and Noble Oak Double Oak Bourbon. Reviewing them right now. Well, I’m also liking the “Toast” like another countryman PapaSop. It has a nice thick liquid feel on the palate with a long after taste that’s pleasant neat. It was the last one on the shelf. They started with a case earlier in the day. The Noble Oak was aged in American oak and finished in Sherry Oak. It’s decent. But, Woodford Reserve double Oak still beats it.

I drink lots of different beers. I enjoy trying different things. Was in an IPA kick but I’ve been drinking a lot more stouts lately. Buffalo Sweat may be a favorite. For bourbon, Elijah Craig for sure although I enjoy Blantons when I can find a bottle. I drink substantially more beer and wine than hard alcohol. Wine, I’m partial to a few varieties: Malbec, Cab, Merlot, a dry Riesling and Chardonnay…defiantly prefer wine on the dry side.

I got into some Eagle Rare 10, this bottle is from 2015, by the time I realized I liked it and found out it was a hot ticket item you couldn’t find it anywhere. I am not about over paying for these bourbon/whiskeys on the secondary market, so I have been milking the bottle. I also got into the Western Son Prickly Pear and Blueberry Vodkas. Those two vodkas can easily be drank neat.

HerbcoFood I try to keep a few Eagle Rare bottles on hand ever since this Buffalo Trace so called shortage started. Its one of my favorite bourbons, but like you I am not paying high prices or standing in lines in hopes to get it. There are way to many other good bourbons and whiskeys out there. The last 2 bottles I got were at the distillery at normal price.

HerbcoFood Totally agree. I let the chasers, chase. There’s soooo many that satisfy the different palates I have on any day. If something happens to be there and I’ve wanted to try it, I may buy it. But, not if the price point is “really???” My bud’s know that I can have a taste for whatever on any certain day. If what I select is not good, I’ll select something totally diff or maybe even drink water. It all depends. But, I have to say, I would normally select a wheated bourbon first. But, you can tell from some of my posts, it also could be a peaty scotch. Just enjoy whatever you pick and hopefully, it’s with a friend. Right now, it’s a big tall glass of coooolllddd water.

GWG8541 zbigjeff I have a buddy who has become one of those guys who has made “friends” with a manager at his local liquor store and can get the harder to get stuff right now. Some stores just don’t put everything they have out knowing all it takes is one person to come in and buy it all up. Also he has learned that Texas and Kentucky or maybe it was Tennessee(I forget the second state) are the only two states that have the smallest allocation of those harder to get liquors. How true is that, I don’t know. At the end of the day I just don’t care enough to go somewhere enough to sweet talk someone for a bottle of hooch.

HerbcoFood We agree again on the liquor front as to not go out of my way. But, I will buddy up with those that can get me a nice piece of chuck, rib eye roast or pork belly when I need it.

Got my hands on some. Good stuff. Like it better than other Basil Hayden’s I have tried. Drinks a little hotter than expected for an 80 proof IMO which isn’t a bad thing. Definitely happy I snagged a bottle. Thanks for the recc.

Tex_77 actually this is my first time having it. Read about it for some time but never bought it. Happy I did. It’s actually pretty d@mn good. Probably would’nt start off with it but after a few it finish’s nice. Lingered longer than others I’ve had at this price point. Will definitely buy again when through with this bottle.
