Jonesy I think it would be fun to go and sample all the foods at a competition and judge them and then be able to look at the judges sheets and see how you would compare to what they are looking at.

bocephus Yeah, no training, just judge by your own instinct

bocephus glen , I think the “real competitors” would be surprised if just regular old people (I don’t mean age) did the judging. For me, if a steak tasted great, thats more important then if the grill marks are straight.

hey vegetarians, my food poops on your food!

kyle I agree, taste should be the most important thing not presentation.

ND Mike I agree fat is flavor, only trim after grilling for steaks.

Here is what the SCA looks for from their site:

Steaks are judged on Appearance, Doneness (Medium), Taste, Texture
and Overall Impression. Tie breaker: Taste, Doneness, Texture, Appearance, and Overall
                              Impression.

bocephus That’s the problem with competition anything, it turns it into work & we are doing that usually for pleasure. Like someone trying to convince you to be a fishing guide or something & bowling over that your not interested. You are taking something that is to relax for & enjoy life & turning it into work.
