calldoctoday My cast iron dutch oven is under my smoker right now. It catches the grease from the trap since the bucket developed a hole. The Pyrex was my mom’s and works great, just the right size for a single batch.

johnsbrewhouse I am just messing with you. It looks beautiful & what it tastes like is what matters. Cornbread was the perfect choice for today & would have recommended it, had you not already decided on it. My Mother used to make her cornbread in an electric fry pan, like a giant thick cornmeal pancake. Let me tell you, it was the best cornbread you could have ever tasted. It would out do anybody else’s cast iron. So there you go, there is nothing wrong what so ever with one of those glass pans. We use several of them.

YooperDog IMG_0086.JPG Cornbread it ended up being. The finished product awaiting the tasting line. The wife will be happy with the cornbread choice too.

johnsbrewhouse I made a chili brat recently using all the ingredients used in chili, high temp cheddar and a cornbread binder. It went over well! Today I had a rib steak and a Long Island ice tea because it’s New Years until I decide it’s not.

calldoctoday No offense taken. I have several pieces of cast iron, but the glass always seems to be the first choice out of the cabinet. My mom had so much when we cleaned out the house after she passed in May we had to decide what to do with it all. I took the Corelle cookware that she had. That stuff has turned valuable. I know some of it is over 40 years old, she had it when I was a kid. I also found some old enameled cast iron pans and pots from the 50’s. I think they came from my grandmother, they were supermarket ware you got weekly or monthly.

Country style eggs benedict . Biscuit with a slice of cheese topped by a hash brown patty, topped with sausage gravy made H-110C sausage, topped by a Sunnyside up egg.

johnsbrewhouse I am very sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing. Yes, some of that old everyday stuff from the 50’s is great stuff. Much better than even some of the not necessarily high dollar, but enough dollar stuff from today. Especially if any of it is Belgium made.

calldoctoday Thank you for the condolences, she lived a long life to 90+ years. The enamel cast ware is Royal DRU iron from Holland, they weren’t cheap even in the late 50’s and early 60’s in today’s prices. It was surprising when I found ads for them when I was researching the history.

Tex_77 indeed…a splurge for sure. I bought the boss’ one for Christmas…they returned the favor! Overpriced perhaps but it performs like a dream. The cooking surface is machined smooth and is easily the most non-stick cast iron I’ve ever used. I’ll just keep adding to the collection one piece at a time
