I am a PB Blaster guy myself for everything except grinder plates, that I use food grade silicone.

I use zip lock bags with the silicone packs in them after they are dry.
Bread ties are a great idea too to keep them still when they are moved in the drawer but still, in a bagโฆ -

WD-40 is basically the Wonder Drug of our generation.
Use it on everything!
Although, have not tried it in a drink.

If you canโt fix a problem with WD-40, duct tape, or baling wire, well, thereโs no hope for you.

Ok, Iโm a dar dar, What is a PB Blaster?

Waitโฆ are you guys saying you pair a separate knife with each grinder plate and keep them as a pair?
Iโve been using the same knife for all platesโฆ is this not as good, what do I gain with a matched pair? And of courseโฆ what are good brand #22 knife to buy if you guys say pairs are better?
-
They wear on both plates and knives. By keeping them together they wear evenly. If you shared, one plate may be slightly warped on the outside and another plate could be warped on the inside. Since the blade is wearing unevenly, the cut it makes in the meat is like a bad pair of scissors. Best practice sharpen together, store together and use together.

Dave in AZ also I think if you have stainless plates you need stainless knives. But i really cant swear to it one of the vets here will probably jump in tomorrow.

PB blaster is like WD40, except it works WAY better. For squeaky doors and small stuff like that, WD works fine. But if you have stuck or rusted bolts, PB works way better. If you try it, you will never go back.

A penetrating oil for stuck and rusted metal parts.

processhead thanks for posting a picture Paul. I was going to go out in the garage and take a pic and post it. Iโm not smart enough to grab a photo off the web. Do you use it also? I know so many people who try it and never go back to anything else. I buy it by the case at the swap meet I go to in the fall. I even found a gallon of it which is nice, I can put it into anything from a squirt bottle to a syringe for doing โโdelicateโโ work

kyle I use it from time to time when I need to disassemble stuff that is frozen with corrosion or rust. Itsโs good stuff, but a can last me quite a while.
-
I go through it probably because I have older equipment (dozer, backhoe, tractors) and I work on old cars.

For my own peace of mind, the wd40 and pb blaster thing is a joke. Only food grade oils/ sprays should be used on parts with food contact. Metal is porous and these protective coatings are designed to penetrate those pores and repell moisture. Simply washing the parts before using them, isnโt going to remove the harsh chemicals found in products like wd40. There would be no benefit to using them over a food grade product. Mineral oil, food grade equipment grease or food grade silicone spray is the safest bet.

kyle Agree on the blaster. It has freed up many a totally rusted components. Was introduced to it by dad about 35 years ago.

Yes, just a joke.
I have only used food-grade white mineral oil on surfaces that need rust protection/lubrication and also touch food.WD-40 is underrated as a cocktail mixer however.

Deepwoodsbutcher I did put in my post on knives/plates I use food grade silicone spray, but like most of us on here we wander off topic sometimes. Thanks for clarifying in your post tho just in case someone is just skimming through and take our conversation the wrong way.
