<![CDATA[Storing grinder plates and knives]]>How do you store your grinder plates and knives so they stay together as paired? I use butchers twine, but thought there has to be a better way, so is there a better way? I don’t like plastic bags since moisture can get trapped inside and cause corrosion. Thought about vacuum sealing them which could work, what do you think?

My shop and my food area for meats are separate areas that do not intermix nearly at all .
Ain’t gonna happen at my house.

I have only used food-grade white mineral oil on surfaces that need rust protection/lubrication and also touch food.

WD-40 is underrated as a cocktail mixer however. 😉

Only food grade oils/ sprays should be used on parts with food contact. Metal is porous and these protective coatings are designed to penetrate those pores and repell moisture. Simply washing the parts before using them, isn’t going to remove the harsh chemicals found in products like wd40. There would be no benefit to using them over a food grade product. Mineral oil, food grade equipment grease or food grade silicone spray is the safest bet.

I know so many people who try it and never go back to anything else. I buy it by the case at the swap meet I go to in the fall. I even found a gallon of it which is nice, I can put it into anything from a squirt bottle to a syringe for doing ‘‘delicate’’ work

PB blaster is like WD40, except it works WAY better. For squeaky doors and small stuff like that, WD works fine. But if you have stuck or rusted bolts, PB works way better. If you try it, you will never go back.

By keeping them together they wear evenly. If you shared, one plate may be slightly warped on the outside and another plate could be warped on the inside. Since the blade is wearing unevenly, the cut it makes in the meat is like a bad pair of scissors. Best practice sharpen together, store together and use together.
