Agree, bacon sounds daunting, but it could be one of the easier meat processes out there. If you have a slicer, you have the hardest part of making bacon whipped.

Pulled the trigger today. Asked if they’d do better on price if I took the whole side. Yep. From $4.49 to $3.99. Never hurts to ask.
I’ll consider this a win win with the prices now.
Besides, I really want to try this. 👍undefinedundefined.

PapaSop - Where do you guys find the pork bellies for bacon? I don’t recall seeing them in my local stores.

Costco here carries them and presently at a reasonable price. Looks like you have a Costco near you in Thornton, but not sure what they carry there.

lkrfletcher I saw some at COSTCO the other day and SAM’S Club had some yesterday. You can also find them at H-MART but in smaller pieces, just not whole bellies. There’s an H-MART up by you at about 90th & Sheridan.

Check out the food markets in Little Saigon there in Denver. They will probably carry bellies and other tasty things you don’t find in regular G stores.

OMG that looks so good. I’m in Texas and I sometimes get offered a “wild hog.” I am very wary of such offers for a variety of reasons, but one of my sons hunts and said that wild hog is absolutely delicious. Have you ever had a wild hog and made bacon from that belly?

Warrenlc57 living in central Texas I could get a trap full of wild hogs any time i wanted, but from my experience I will only eat the 40-60lbs. I know people that will deal with the larger ones, but the smaller ones when smoked whole are truely delicious.

Dr_Pain lost two of the 3 jams I ordered. I let Walton’s customer service know via their email. I checked my emails a few minutes later and had a new order email pop up to replace.the two jars. Talk about great customer service.

PapaSop glad to see you made a great product. I usually make one covered in coarse cracked pepper. Sometimes an extra soak or two will help remove some extra salt. If you like it spicy try some jalapeno or red pepper in your rub.

Apparently we ran out of bacon in the freezer, so I told the wife to pick up a pound at the grocery store for a new recipe I wanted to try. WOW, in our sheltered life of processing our own bacon and sausage we had not realized how much bacon had went up. Moral of the story do not run out of processed meat and check your freezer inventory today. Yes I currently have 3 half bellies curing now. What is really odd is that the pork bellies are still the same price as they have been for months and the boston butts have actually dropped in price.

What is really odd is that the pork bellies are still the same price as they have been for months and the boston butts have actually dropped in price.

mrobisr I still cannot get the bellies & after the butts went back down to normal in price, they have now gone way up again. I don’t recall ever seeing swings like this. Everything else is up at least 10-20% or more & it seems & beef is higher than that. I don’t know where the politicians are getting that they are worried that inflation is up 4%.
