Dr_Pain I still drink beer (mostly crafted). But, don’t consume much because it bloats me after a couple. So, I use it as only a chaser. My buds and I have been messing with Old Fashions the last year. Oh, the concoctions (percentages of mix and type of bourbon) that we’ve come up with every week. Our current fav (that may change at any moment) is using Knob Creek Smoked Maple, Luxardo cherries, Proof syrup(or homemade simple syrup) and Orange Bitters. So far, we’ve tried old fashions with over 50 bourbons. When we’re not doing old fashions, it’s neat for the first try of a bourbon and then usually one ice cube. Whatever you do, just have fun with all of it.

zbigjeff If you make your own simple syrup I would definitely suggest to use turbinado over regular sugar. Since I live in Louisiana and I am surrounded by sugarmill. I have several patients who work at the mill and get that stuff direct, so by association I get some primo stuff. It brings another dimension to old fashions. Everybody grows Satsumas locally and a splash of that juice is incredible!!! My last old fashion was made with Four Roses. Talk about a great Bourbon, but I would say I prefer to drink it on ice though.

Dr_Pain Have not tried turbinado sugar. But, have tried dark and light brown sugar. Will have to pick up some turbinado. Always into enhancing the experience. Thanks.

I usually am wary of celebrity brands but at 80 proof this is smooth enough to be a straight sipper
Predominant Strawberry with some citrus along with some of the standard gin botanicals

I think this gin could turn some gin never bees, especially if mixed with a strawberry soda

glen Yep, I used to hate Gin, but then I spent a few bucks on a bottle and turns out its a pretty good spirit. It does get a bad wrap and I understand why, some of those botanicals are pretty potent.

A sloe gin fizz is also an underappreciated drink.

Recently came across a way too make your own gin (aka bathtub gin… I think) from vodka. Definitely going to give it a try so I can tweak it into something that’s delicious. Just ordered some juniper berries which I’m sure I’ll find other uses for as well. Another spirit that I’m interested in trying my hand at is aquavit and variations of that.

I put Juniper Berries in my pickled eggs & pickled herring. I’ll smash a few when I sauté my sauerkraut with garlic, caraway seed and a pinch of cardamom.(don’t forget to add that dollop of butter!).

Someone please try this and tell me if it’s any good. I’d have to take out a second mortgage to buy some. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/sam-adams-beer-utopias-illegal-15-states/

                                          Why?
                                          Because we can.
