Drink of Choice
-
zbigjeff After running into a few “bourbon chasers” at my favorite liquor store, I’m pretty sure most couldn’t tell the difference between Old Grand Dad and Blanton’s in a side by side blind taste. Most are in it for the name or status of the bottle and some for the resale value. Very few seem to be chasing it because they actually enjoy drinking a good whiskey. I still believe some distilleries help drive the hype and hysteria. The only good I have discovered because of the “chase”, is I have expanded my arsenal to a lot of excellent smaller distilleries that I may have never tried and now will continue down that road.

PapaSop Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond!

Let me know what you think. Lifted many boxes but never tried.

YooperDog yep, its already past midnight here, so I guess I’m starting early. Hard to believe 20 years have passed. Especially since our government has apparently forgotten everything that happened. If we do not learn from our mistakes we are doomed to repeat them. To those who lost their lives 20 years ago and everyone one since while fighting terrorism and to keep our great country and the world safe. Slainte

GWG8541 Thanks for the toast to our Brave. Many they never be forgotten.

PapaSop HAIL YES. That model is the Cleveland OH bourbon society’s standard barrel choice. Guess they like it also.

As an expat from Canada I have lost my love for beer since most of what is found contains less than 5% alcohol, so being that I have some disposable income I decided to stick to hard liquor and Bourbon is my “Drink of Choice”. I do prefer it over ice but will also enjoy a strong Old Fashion (secret recipe from my father in law)

twilliams that is some smooth sipping there! I also like to add it to coffee!

Dr_Pain I still drink beer (mostly crafted). But, don’t consume much because it bloats me after a couple. So, I use it as only a chaser. My buds and I have been messing with Old Fashions the last year. Oh, the concoctions (percentages of mix and type of bourbon) that we’ve come up with every week. Our current fav (that may change at any moment) is using Knob Creek Smoked Maple, Luxardo cherries, Proof syrup(or homemade simple syrup) and Orange Bitters. So far, we’ve tried old fashions with over 50 bourbons. When we’re not doing old fashions, it’s neat for the first try of a bourbon and then usually one ice cube. Whatever you do, just have fun with all of it.

zbigjeff If you make your own simple syrup I would definitely suggest to use turbinado over regular sugar. Since I live in Louisiana and I am surrounded by sugarmill. I have several patients who work at the mill and get that stuff direct, so by association I get some primo stuff. It brings another dimension to old fashions. Everybody grows Satsumas locally and a splash of that juice is incredible!!! My last old fashion was made with Four Roses. Talk about a great Bourbon, but I would say I prefer to drink it on ice though.

ND Mike my two favorites to coffee is Di and Baileys irish cream. Cant go wrong with either one

Dr_Pain Have not tried turbinado sugar. But, have tried dark and light brown sugar. Will have to pick up some turbinado. Always into enhancing the experience. Thanks.

One of my sons introduced me to Snoop Dogg’s Indoggo gin
I usually am wary of celebrity brands but at 80 proof this is smooth enough to be a straight sipper
Predominant Strawberry with some citrus along with some of the standard gin botanicals -

I think this gin could turn some gin never bees, especially if mixed with a strawberry sodaglen Yep, I used to hate Gin, but then I spent a few bucks on a bottle and turns out its a pretty good spirit. It does get a bad wrap and I understand why, some of those botanicals are pretty potent.
A sloe gin fizz is also an underappreciated drink.

HerbcoFood That is what my wife used to drink all the time when we were young.
