What did everyone cook today?
-
To go with the pulled pork I made a Country Potato Salad, Black bean and corn salad, coleslaw, and bbq beans (which i forgot to take a final picture of so ypubget to see the base)

Tex_77 Wow - what a great spread.
-
wdaly i use a Ziploc bag, easier to handle. I started making bacon exclusively with a dry rub and have been using a pickle more often, I seem to get a better product, maybe just me. As JoeB stated there are a lot of cuts on a hog that you can cure into a form of bacon. Buckboard bacon from a butt is a good example.
YooperDog Thanks. Hadn’t thought about other cuts off pork being used. I want to try some pickling as well. This forum is great for ideas and assistance.
-
wdaly I also use a 2 gallon ziplock bag. It does make liquid in the bag so I also put it into a meat lug in the fridge. Really makes a mess if a hole gets poked in the bag
kyle I bet it would make a mess, plus you lose all the valuable flavor.
-
I made some grilled shrimp with a homemade pasta salad, it was this meal just at the coast for the family, so I didn’t take any pictures: https://www.instagram.com/p/CO9BgjgljOz/

kyle My wife doesn’t get mad nearly as often any more, her answer is you made the mess you clean it up. I am much more careful about putting tubs under things now!

bocephus Well, well, well. Thinking she got through with her “message”. LOL
-
JoeB I enjoy my family but it gets tiring, nonstop cooking, cleaning and entertaining. It like a job. Our plan got blown out of the water with everyone’s diet and allergy issues. All’s good! You gotta enjoy the suck, lol. Pulling the meats out of the freezer tomorrow, with the plan to do some grinding mid to late week. Hope you had a great fourth/independence day.
YooperDog Yep, your issue follows what I’ve heard many times in life about offspring: “Sometimes you want to hug 'em and other times you want to eat 'em.”

bocephus Sounds pretty familiar. That’s about how it goes at my house. Certainly makes you more careful.

zbigjeff Rodney Dangerfield “Now I know why lions eat their young”, my sister in law used this phrase when my nieces and nephews were young.
-
zbigjeff Absolutely, it only takes having to wipe out a shelf in the fridge but one time to remember to place things in a tub.

Grilled Honey BBQ Chicken, slider, homemade potatoes and raisin salad. Sunday night dinner.
Had a left over round steak so decided to have some steak fingers for supper.

YooperDog Good to here fm you… I always like visitors, (for about 3 days) then its time to get back to normal. When i have a house full of family and visitor i tell them what i’m going to cook… BoB, BoC, and a enough for a side for their party. if traveling make it here or buy it… All disposable stuff to include flat ware. except for serving dishes. Do a lot of reunions and get togethers as we travel with my motorhome. I premake and freeze most. That being said you did a great job … Hang tuff

JohnG5 Looks great, bet it tastes just as good

wdaly Doesn’t look like left over to me, Awesome

I’ve recently been on a toast kick for breakfast. Been using the Dave’s killer bread power seed bread and topping it with various hummus, veggies, and proteins (egg, bacon, salmon). Today’s was proteinless but still pretty delicious. Used salsa Verde hummus, radish/tomato, onion, jalapeño everything seasoning (which is awesome if you haven’t tried it), and some cilantro to top it off.

Surg I love a fancy dressed piece of toast every now and again.
