Anyone have any idea what could have done this to my yard? I have a picture of the scat it left behind. I love my yard, I feel like I’ve been invaded by a foreign country and war has been declared.
Tex_77 I have never seen a Dillo do damage that looks like that & the scat looks strange in the photo. Hogs typically do more damage from what I have seen, but along the same lines. They will look like a roto tiller got ahold of it all, even thick stuff. Keep an eye on those critters, maybe you can cook em & eat em.

Finally got a chance to get some photos in. First photo is March, next two are today after nearly a month with no significant rain then weeks of very heavy rain. Everything is a little sparse. The tomatoes are Better Boy I believe, German Queen, & San Marzano. We ate all the cabbages, carrots, asparagus & harvested most of the Elephant Garlic. Still getting a few green beans, tomatoes, peppers, chard, basil, onions, eggplants, mints, cucumbers, etc. -

calldoctoday Nice. We’re still about a month away from getting produce. Garlic is starting to mature, though. Squash just started to bloom. Always try to have corn “knee high by Fourth of July”.

Surg Thank you, but nothing like it used to be. Then we found out early this morning a new very early morning or night bird took a severe liking to the German Queen & Cherokee Purple Maters. It was still too early for even the chickens to have done it.

wdaly Thank you, I really appreciate that. Yes, I always heard all my life that corn “has to be knee high by the 4th of July” or something is not right. Heck, down here it is all dried up & turned brown by the 4th of July or something not’s right! Amazing.

Making the most of my space in suburbia. Few type of tomatoes, cukes, melons, and peppers including Carolina reapers🥵. Got some herbs and then some random plants like garlic, naranjilla, ground cherries (aka cape gooseberries), blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, huckleberry, fig tree, hardy kiwi vine, and a grape vine. Last three haven’t produced yet. Also First season growing asparagus in container (we’ll see how it goes) couldn’t commit a spot in my yard yet.
Surg Wow, you have Huckleberries & Gooseberries, that is amazing. When I was on assignment in Montana I found out that huckleberries were basically the state fruit there. They made all sorts of things with huckleberries there. I always liked those huckleberries & goose berries. I liked Montana a whole lot too. The owners of the company I did the inspection for wanted me to go to work for them full time & move up there, but Margaret would have no part of it. If you like Huckleberries, you should visit Montana some time, they have all sorts of uses for them.

They made all sorts of things with huckleberries there. I always liked those huckleberries & goose berries. I liked Montana a whole lot too. The owners of the company I did the inspection for wanted me to go to work for them full time & move up there, but Margaret would have no part of it. If you like Huckleberries, you should visit Montana some time, they have all sorts of uses for them.

Here in Washington, our wild Huckleberries are found above 2500 ft. in elevation and you don’t want to know how much per lb. they get for them. They raid the National Forest with the permits since there are not enough rangers to patrol. They do the same to the mushrooms. The illegal pickers don’t like us since our recreation property abuts the National Forest and we chase a lot of them off. Wishing you the best on your crop Surg, your urban garden looks great.

Most always we are canning on the 4th of July weekend. It’s a traditional gift to SWMBO on her birthday!

Looks great. Love me some pickled green beans. First time I tried them was at an Amish flea/farmers market. Had a sample, and the guy came up behind me and said, “How’d ya like dem dilly beans!” Scared the crap outta me. I’ll never see them again without thinking of that moment. Nice looking crop you had there. -

Oh man. Guess I won’t be so let down if I don’t get any fruit. Just went out to look again. Looks good so far. Fingers crossed. Surg Looks like good fruit set, you should get fruit. Enjoy them, they are delicious. I should pictures of my coffee tree in bloom. I may get a few Kona beans this year. Coffee trees are hard to grow out of the tropics and especially indoors.
