Tex_77 They are truly a time saver. My back had me down this weekend so i had my grand daughter come over. I could drill the holes and she followed behind me putting plants in. We had 40 plants in in 30 minutes!

Tex_77 I don’t know. I still like doing it the old way. Part of the experience & I need to keep it simple.

Thanks everyone for your condolences on our loss of Haley, she was only 4 years old. It was a shock to find her. She hadn’t been down long and I began lifesaving attempts with her along with my son. I believe she had some sort of heart issue or stroke and it took her life right away since I found her right next to her ball that she had been playing with. Her brother has been visiting with her knowing she passed until we can get her to the vets office when they open and have her cremated. Thanks again to all of you in this community for being here, I certainly appreciate it.IMG_0014.JPG

Not so good today folks, one of our dogs just died suddenly. I found her un-responsive in the back yard after she had been upstairs with her ball. She was only almost 4 years old. I am feeling pretty low right now and my wife is in tears. Had to find someplace to vent.

johnsbrewhouse Hang in there. Its not fair those great animals leave us so quick. They become part of the family. Just remember those good times with that beautiful pup.

zbigjeff Sorry to hear that Jeff, it is not something you want to have happen. We are still perplexed on what really what happened. We were going to have a necropsy done, but it required logistics of going to a specialty vet, then delays and the possibility of not being able to cremate her when all was done. We just decided to say it was her time to be with her maker.

Dave in AZ My good lord with that yard…do dogs scare them away? I had something digging out under one of my patios and I had my dogs pee around I all the time which did nothing, however, I eventually bought some Fox pee pellets and sprinkled it in the hole and they don’t seem to have come back. Its available at menards and I am sure home depot and places like that.

Jonathon thx for the ideas, I am sure any layers I add to my “yard defense” will help. My terrier dog did ok at catching the gophers, but just couldn’t keep up with an acre…they outpaced him. But the carbon monoxide seems to have worked, haven’t seen many new mounds for a few weeks. Now I just have to keep on it with monthly treatments.

I’ve done them many ways quick pickles , fermented , etc. keep coming back to the way my uncle used to make them.

                                          6c white vinegar
                                          5Tbsp pickling salt
About a Tbsp of pickling spice
                                          Tbsp sugar
Some dill fresh or freeze dried ~1tsp
About a head of garlic cloves smashed
Leave on counter for 3 days with loose lid then refrigerate And that’s it
Sometimes I’ll add hot pepper to spice it up

Eventually I’ll have to get a more precise recipe
Not sure how long they’re good for but they usually get eaten within a week.

Need to find a good recipe for half sour pickles.
