Gettin the beds ready. My seeds were hit or miss this year so may be buying some plants but we’ll see. Lettuce, arugula, and mustard greens direct sown doing ok.

Pulled some “weeds” out of the garden today. Got me thinking because what I was removing was all foragable plants. Chickweed, purple dead nettle, etc. Anyone else on here do any foraging? Recently tried some trout Lilly which was great. Also a big fan of Japanese knotweed. Also reminded me how I would like to try my hand at some mushrooms. Maybe this year. Thinking of doing logs but may start with a bun and take it from there.

Surg made a mushroom bed of wine caps last spring, those were easy to grow. I am expecting another good season with them and will be trying some other varieties this year.

Surg I used to do much, much more 35 years ago & more than I do now. I think at times we should do it again, but around here there are too many corporate farms & what could be around some of those soils scares me from things I have seen. We were in a more semi pristine & undeveloped area when we used to do more of that.

My starter soil is carp! Now after 2 years of garbage! I’m in desperate need to learn of a favorite seed starter soil!

I tilled today. My seeds did pretty good this year with the exception of my hot banana peppers.
The tomatoes in the picture are from seeds sent to me by my cousin in Florida. He got them about 10 years ago from my dad, who mailed them to him and my cousin kept them going every year. This past Christmas he sent me seeds in a Christmas card with a note about being from my Dad’s seed crop. My cousin says they are a yellow tomato. If you look at the label, I just named them “Dad’s Yellow”. I transplanted 6 into some larger pots this weekend to get the roots spreading out from the seedling flats. Its still several weeks away from putting anything in the ground here and the plants will also need to be hardened off.

Be nice if I could get the garden prep finished. Frost last week, bit of sun over the weekend but was working at my son-in-laws new place putting in the utilities and two in poly water line. Then the deluges started Monday with the hail, suppose to be all week. Still got to get another load of dirt too.

cdavis You have always got the best. Looks like you have one of those tillers like I had on one of my tractors when we were still in Texas. It was a 6’ Italian Beast of tiller & you can see the nice beds they make. I sold all that, my truck, trailer, JD 95 & Bobcat 863 when I got transferred out here about 20 years ago or so. Lost my left arm! Wishing you the very best with that wonderful looking garden.

cdavis I had a small plot a couple years ago that I cultivated for about 10 years with sand, grass and fertilizer. It was superb and the product was over the top. Wishing you the same success.
