I found this Hobart 18 inch buffalo chopper today at an estate sale in a nearby town.
It came with all the important accessories including a #12 grinder and a βpelicanβ vegetable shredder, which I will probably try to find a new home for.
Chopper blades were in good shape and the grinder came with a 3/16 inch plate and a brand new Zico grinder knife.The drive unit looks like it had been sitting unused for a long time. When I plugged it in at the guys garage it just hummed. After getting it home and looking it over, I plugged it in to a dedicated 20 amp outlet in my shop. It started right up and ran as it should. The amp draw while it was running was under the name plate rating, so thatβs a good sign.
Looks like all it will need is a good cleaning and I look forward to trying out the bowl chopper.I also bought a small Enterprise cast iron stuffer which you can see in the background of the top photo. A project for another day.

The one we have here you can take a bearing in and they will identify and match it usually in stock

Motor info would also helpThere are supply houses here, and I called a couple of them earlier. In hindsight, bringing them in would have probably narrowed down the search fairly quickly with the resources they have at hand.
I feel pretty confident I have the correct ones located now and they should be here by the end of the week.

Wrong bearings arrived today. Operator error on my part. Stupid little part number and fuzzy eyesight.
Got an order in for the right ones.
processhead I understand & wonder myself how I am able to continue looking at buildings. The number stamped on the bearing looks like 8203 to me, but possible B203 or 820B. Is there anywhere locally that you can take them too vs the online thing?

Making some progress today. I have the new bearing in the motor and the motor runs nice and quiet now like it should.
Next up I need to address a bad seal in the gearbox that runs the bowl. The oil level was low when I got the machine and there was evidence underneath that oil was getting past the seal on the input drive shaft to the gear box.
Seal should be here Monday. While I have it torn apart, it will get a couple of bearings. I need to turn a bushing that goes on the sheave clutch. Still under $60 total in parts so I consider that a win.
I am impressed by the build quality of these Hobart machines. All the subassemblies are constructed with heavy duty milled and machined parts.
They were designed to log thousands of hours, then be rebuilt and do it all over again.
