ND Mike no time to waste. I have taken some in 80°-90° weather and it’s all hands on deck after the photo shoot.

ND Mike don’t get me wrong, I love taking a decent buck, especially with bow, but a good young doe that has been eating corn and soybeans regularly is hard to beat as far as taste.

GWG8541 I feel like any deer is an accomplishment, a big buck or mature doe is an extra bonus.

I try to get my meat first, and if it’s a good buck, that’s a bonus. If the wife and I have a good year, then we won’t buy any beef except the occasional steak.

Ken1261 When I was young, we only had a one day season and around 10 hunters in our party. We were not too picky with what we shot. Party hunting is legal in the state so you could shoot more than one. We did a lot of deer drives to push them. I remember other people getting out of their vehicles when we started a drive, which didn’t bother me if they stayed out of our way.

bocephus I grew up running dogs in FL. So when someone managed to killed a deer and it was divided between everyone involved, you might end up with 5 pounds of meat. I didn’t know how to act when I started still hunting and had a whole deer to myself. How 15 years later and going to S. Carolina, I usually have a good amount of venison each year.

Today is the day I am heading to the piney woods of east Texas, cold front blew through so hopefully that will trigger some movement, it also rained a lot yesterday.

I was able to take Saturday and Sunday off to go deer hunting. I only had a doe tag but I’m very picky with does. I have passed on many this year. I have also gotten a bit soft hearted as I’ve gotten older. I won’t harvest a doe that has fawns with her anymore. Today I shot one but the bad thing is she was 1.5 miles from the truck in a spot where you have to drag them out. Sleep will come easy tonight and Thank God for a good game cart! It was windy as all get out today too. 15 degrees with 27 mph winds.

The big deer that is in the area didn’t show his face, but this fella made the mistake of coming out. I will be turning this guy into pan sausage and chorizo. Thankfully it was cold enough to use nature’s walk in cooler so I didn’t have to quarter him up right away.

I just ordered our favorite breakfast pan sausage blend, and going to try that brand’s chorizo blend. Hopefully, I will be able to get it done this weekend.
