Beginning of the month, the local Costco had whole ones on sale for $3.69/lb and then a couple bucks off at the register.

I’ve always only been able to find it in the +$5 range, and that’s going back 5 years in my area. Currently $5.59/lb at my go-to retailer.

johnsbrewhouse Just when does the prices stop climbing?

Wholesale bacon is now $66.00 for 15 pounds, pork bellies just out of range.

Lately I’ve been pan frying ham slices to replace. Many customers seem to like it better and view it as more healthy.

Chef $27.00 for 5lbs right now here for Cloverdale bacon, that’s on sale. That is down from $38.00 a month ago. When US foods took over Cash and Carry they raised prices on everything. We complained, it went in one ear and out the other and then they found out when their warehouse supplier got shutdown for a COVID outbreak for two weeks and people found other sources for product with cheaper prices, now their tune has changed.

johnsbrewhouse you know, if it was the farmers and small processors getting the money, I would think differently. It is the greedy large processor that are benefiting from this market. People who sit back on their chairs, do no work, and reap the profits.

Really this is throughout all production. The small guy can’t get a break, and the larger guys just get richer.

NOW THIS is not a suggestion of socialism, but rather as consumers, we need to support the small guy. Sure, it may be a few cents higher, but at least it is good business practices.

Buy local, buy small business, and help our neighbors thrive.

We have to start a new saying: Not everything is better with bacon! so people stop buying it and the price can go down. Reverse supply and demand!

Dr_Pain That’s why I pulled a full belly from the freezer on Tuesday to thaw. It’s my rainy day fund when I got them cheap, have another belly and a half left for more rainy days.
