wdaly do they soften up then after processing. I think it would be nice to just heat them up and eat them for a quick meal camping or at the hunting shack

kyle I had a jar of the potatoes that didn’t seal. Does them in the fridge overnight and made potato salad this morning. I like my potatoes in salad too still have a firm bite. These were just right. The nice thing is how fast it is to make tater salad when the taters are already done.

craigrice we ended up with almost 3 bushel, from what I read thin skinned taters have less starch and are better for canning. This weekend I am going to can some of my reds and give it a try

Have never canned potatoes, but we used to pheasant hunt in Kansas over thanksgiving and we would cook a turkey on a grill out in the field and my brother in law would always bring canned potatoes, I thought they were pretty good.

I haven’t gave up on the garden yet. My tomatoes and peppers are still doing good and I planted English peas for the first time ever. 20211014_075732.jpg 20211014_075636.jpg

cdavis My garden has been put away for the winter. All that is left is a few stray beets. The hard frost on Tuesday took everything out, even the covered plants. The tree’s started dropping their leaves even. Pulled all the plants, put them in the compost bin and turned the soil over for winter.

johnsbrewhouse We’re right at that point with our garden. We had flurries & cold rain in the afternoon & evening and a hard frost last night, 28*. Luckily I tilled last Friday & Saturday and we got our garlic in for over the winter. We still have a few covered tomato & pepper plants but not really expecting to glean much more off them. Kind of sad to see the garden go for the year but now it’s time to think about & plan next years garden!

Bob Stehlik My tomato’s and peppers were both covered and are in raised beds, but it stayed to cold overnight for them to survive. The tomato’s really know when the cold is coming. You are at a bit higher elevation than us being in CO. I’m only at 410 ft., we have had snow down to 2500- 3000 ft. on Tuesday in the mountains 45 miles from me. Mt. Rainier is no longer bare.

Every year I say I’m gonna do a cold hardy fall garden and every year I miss getting the seeds in the ground. Even acquired some of the stuff to construct a small cold frame but keep slackin.

Surg I am with you. I used to get it in like clockwork, but now that I am running a business, well I say it & I am sure of it, but then we get busy. I am still saying I am going to try & get a few things in that would still squeeze in, but better not hold my breath. Sad thing is, our Fall gardens always do 1000 times better than Spring.

We’ve gone nuts literally! With fall comes the walnut harvest and beating the squirrels out of them (they also destroy the tree). Of course my two dogs and pellet pistol make short work of that problem here lately. We have harvest about one third of what’s left, it will take a few more weeks for the rest to drop or a good wind storm. Lots of work to pick them up, hull the ones that are still intact, clean them then put them out to dry a bit. That’s almost 15 gallons drying on the deck. The worst part is shelling them. As you can see from the pictures, there are quite a few already, more sitting on the ground waiting to be cleaned and still more on the tree. IMG_0223.JPG IMG_0224.JPG
