Hey folks, I bought this $1300 unit many years ago for the wife for Christmas, I used it 3 times and absolutely hate it as I prefer charcoal flavor. She used it maybe 3 times as she hates to cook. What are the tricks to get a good grilled flavor out of a gas grills. I have heard of people putting some kind of brick or ceramic blocks in the bottom? Or should I just sell it? Suggestions? It just sits tucked away next to the house. I bet I’ve had it for close to 10 years.

twilliams you can still buy lava rocks (I think thats what they are called) and put around your burners. Also when I use gas, I put wood chips in aluminum foil, poke some holes in it and set it down by the burner.

hey vegetarians, my food poops on your food!

Use grill powder in your seasoning. It is made basically of ground charcoal and maltodextrin and adds the char flavor.

twilliams Honestly, best bet in my mind is either the Flip Pro Smoke Box or one of the Amazen Tube smoke generators we carry. Adding smoke is going to help get you past the gas burner grill taste or lack thereof! Personally I like my pellets grill way more than my old gas grill but I think using something like this is a good compromise. I don’t personally think I used to get a lot of propane/gas taste when I used a gas grill, I think I was just missing the smoke flavor.

Everyones taste buds are a little different though so some people are more sensitive to that taste than others.

I already have a big Weber charcoal. Just wanted this for ease for the wife but get a charcoal grill flavor. Sounding like that’s not possible

twilliams - I’ve used the Amazen Tube on a gas grill when cooking at other folks homes. Works good, but will leave some ash behind.

Agree with the tube smoker and pellets. It helps, but cannot replicate what you get using charcoal. I have a gas grill too - it just sits like yours. I use the tube in the pellet smoker too. 90% of the time, it’s the Big Green Egg or ggf. Kamado Joe.

twilliams I had one like it and bought it for similar reasons. Liked the convenience, but not the flavor. Donated it to a local college fraternity, I didn’t have to offer twice and they were here with a pickup and help.

add wood chips in foil and place hear burners, helps give that bit of charcoal you seem to be lacking
