RJ Adventures wow so you have had 2 blow the supports off or 1?
I have not experienced the tooth jumping YET. Lol
The el stuffer is really great for making link sausage with hog casings. But if I knew about the weak point of the supports I would of went with another kind like they sold at Cabela’s. I have never read anywhere that the LEM model had this weak spot. I thought it was just me that had some bad luck. Thanks for sharing.

I think this is a potential problem with manufacturers that modify these manual stuffer designs with a powered drive system.

A well designed powered drive system will have a shear pin or other non-destructive weak link that gives way if the drive system is subjected to an over-torque condition. This prevents expensive damage or catastrophic failure.

Reminds me of when my knucklehead friend bottomed out the piston plate of my 8 quart cast iron Enterprise stuffer and kept on torqueing on the handle. Pop! He broke a tooth of the pinion gear! Luckily was able to find replacement that time.

    Ok, Enough topic creep…

Jesser just one blow out that was a hakka stuffer, my El one is lem that just seems to skip teeth or something because every so often when it seems a gear is going around and POP! the piston releases a little and have to re crank down again… like you said, I don’t like the support system because it does not touch the bottom, it’s suspended…

processhead the El ones do have a safety with the motor, it’s the drive overload shutoff like Jesser was saying… if the motor starts heating up due to increased pressure, or whatever it trips the breaker for the overload on the motor…that definitely works!

RJ Adventures have you ever open it up to see what might be allowing your stuffer to jump a tooth?

It’s nice when you can get down to the bottom of the old stuff and start over.
