        Chef

Here is a screen shot from a video I did. This is the front of it.

        Grinder Front.PNG

This is a picture of motor specs.

        Grinder Motor.PNG

It has a 3 inch pulley on the motor. I want to change that to a 1 inch, but haven’t been able to find one.

        Grinder Motor pulley.PNG

The grinder has a 12 in pulley that comes with a handle for hand cranking. Took that off and run a v-belt from the hardware store.

        Grinder Pulley.PNG

Use a turn-buckle to tension the belt. And wired a light switch in line.

Grinder Switch and tensioner and hinge.PNG

It grinds pretty much as fast as you can put it in. Fastest we have clocked it is about 10lb a minute, but if you expanded the hopper with some type of funnel (which I have seen on youtube) you could probably go faster than that. Only thing I would change is probably slowing it down with a smaller motor pulley, but that would just be to ease my mind as its north of 400RPM if I did my math right. A 1 inch pulley would bring it down to around 150RPM. Probably going to get some more plates/knives for it as that is the only one it has.

I take care when putting it together as to make sure the bearings and everything are running true so their is no metal on metal action.

pr0wlunwoof Thanks, that’s such a good backup. I wanted a manual grinder just in case power was out, having that as an option is terrific. I have several pulleys and motors, sure I could get one to work. Kill two birds with one purchase.

No problem. I think it would be a good backup/secondary for you. For the $120 I got in it im pretty happy. Cleanup isn’t too bad I just take it apart and off the 4 bolts and throw everything in the dish washer. They make a stainless steal version, but i haven’t gone looking for it. Rust doesn’t scare me, but I’m not using it to make a living.
Main issues I have seen is folks not getting everything running true. Its not hard just allot of people don’t pay attention to what their doing.

Chef Yeah. I dunno. Stopped watching and reading the “news” and turned off facebook back in June. A whole lot of misinformation and fear mongering. Started doing my own fact checking and devising my own plan based on those facts. Hopefully others have done the same.

pr0wlunwoof I agree, fact checking is important. Sad, can’s always do it with Google, they tend to give biased hits. Proved that to myself months ago. They promote their agenda. Haven’t really found a search engine to use that just is not biased.

pr0wlunwoof Yeah, looking at things outside the main stream is important. Trying to find unbiased sources could drive you crazy. Speaking of plans, they are really important and we’ve hamered it home time and time again on the podcast but having some plan for your meat supply is critical. I was pretty worried about all of this and then we had something happen near us, I laid out a plan with my wife on what we were going to do and slept like a baby that night. I just had to endure her looking at me like I was crazy for a few minutes, small price to pay for some additional security to both ourselves and our food!
