Well I have searched the world via my web browser and it seems no one makes the shute adapter for these grinders anymore. I got as far as talking to someone who had one that fit a #22 Manual grinder that they “thought” would work if I ground off some lip, but I wasn’t down with that. So its time to get busy engineering my own.

These are the units I was trying to purchase.

    This is the first one:

And this is the second one:

    Grinder attachement 1.PNG

Either would accomplish my goal of adding some functionality, but more importantly some safety. Both were from the same supplier, but from different manufacturers and one I was told was actually manufactured by walton’s at one point, but alas no one makes either anymore.

So The second option decked out with tray and Pusher was $220 with shipping so I decided that is my new budget. A 3d printer has been on my list for a while and recently the Ender3 has gone on sale for $167. An upgrade for self leveling bed puts the unit with filament and extra nozzles at $220. So here we go. I did order a digital caliper, but I’m not counting that 😉 .

Here is my initial drawing using measurements with a measuring tape I had in the garage. I used Fusion360 which has a free version of the 3d modeling tool by Autocad.

    Grinder Attachement.PNG

Stay tuned! The printer should be here in a week or so and the Calipers today. My goal is to make something that slips over the current mouth of the grinder and attaches at the same point as the back feet. I would like the whole assembly to be no more than 2 pieces.

pr0wlunwoof We used a #32 grinder that my dad put a flywheel pulley on and belt drive to an electric motor that was on a plate with a hinge. Plug in the motor, tighen a C clamp to add tension and the grinder would go to work. Well…that thing was scary! i could fit my whole hand in the throat as a kid so we were “instructed” in the “safe” operation…drop the meat into the grinder…it became a game for my brother and I to see how high we could drop it from…kids… That looks like a very nice safety feature!

Parksider Yeah it is a little scary. Mine currently has a light switch and a foot pedal. I just got a smaller pulley to put on the motor which will slow the auger down quite a bit. I have done some research and my motor is capable of running in reverse so I might put a double pull switch on it just in case it gets clogged at lower speeds, but at this point I just turn it off and back it up manually. After all the effort I will of put into it I could have done something as good with allot less effort, but Its all about learning and making something with my hands.

        This is it currently.

So in my venture I have come to the conclusion that this style knife does not fit these manual grinders. The edges are too fat and they get caught on the housing. They can be ground down, but allot of people do not have the equipment to do that.

Got the printer together and have it calibrated. First test print was a little piggy.

pr0wlunwoof So I am not a star trek fan but I hear them brought up often in regards to a “post-scarcity” society, this 3-D printing is a huge step in the journey to that! You’ll have to let us know how this goes!

Chef Here it is after a couple of hours. I don’t have enough filament for this one to finish, but thats ok I really just wanted to print it to see if its going to fit over the grinder hopper.

                          First Attempt 2 hours.PNG

At this point I can tell I am going to make the walls much thinner as the majority of it is infill material anyways.

I’m using PLA for now. I want to get it setup to do PETG, but this machine isn’t the best suited for that right out of the box.

I got v3 printed last night. Dunno if I will get a chance to mess with it this weekend or not.
