#32 Hand/Belt Driven Grinder
-
pr0wlunwoof We used a #32 grinder that my dad put a flywheel pulley on and belt drive to an electric motor that was on a plate with a hinge. Plug in the motor, tighen a C clamp to add tension and the grinder would go to work. Well…that thing was scary! i could fit my whole hand in the throat as a kid so we were “instructed” in the “safe” operation…drop the meat into the grinder…it became a game for my brother and I to see how high we could drop it from…kids… That looks like a very nice safety feature!

Parksider Yeah it is a little scary. Mine currently has a light switch and a foot pedal. I just got a smaller pulley to put on the motor which will slow the auger down quite a bit. I have done some research and my motor is capable of running in reverse so I might put a double pull switch on it just in case it gets clogged at lower speeds, but at this point I just turn it off and back it up manually. After all the effort I will of put into it I could have done something as good with allot less effort, but Its all about learning and making something with my hands.
This is it currently.

So in my venture I have come to the conclusion that this style knife does not fit these manual grinders. The edges are too fat and they get caught on the housing. They can be ground down, but allot of people do not have the equipment to do that.

Got the printer together and have it calibrated. First test print was a little piggy.

pr0wlunwoof So I am not a star trek fan but I hear them brought up often in regards to a “post-scarcity” society, this 3-D printing is a huge step in the journey to that! You’ll have to let us know how this goes!

Jonathon Not a Star Trek fan, wow, and I thought you were a true blue team member. You might need to catch up on a few episodes. Live long and prosper.

pr0wlunwoof Impressive. Can’t wait to see the end results.

Well. I finally got my design down to where I think I can print without any support material. Here we go. V1 printing atm. T-minus 24 hours

Chef Here it is after a couple of hours. I don’t have enough filament for this one to finish, but thats ok I really just wanted to print it to see if its going to fit over the grinder hopper.

At this point I can tell I am going to make the walls much thinner as the majority of it is infill material anyways.

Got far enough to take some measurements.

pr0wlunwoof impressive. What material is used to print this?

I’m using PLA for now. I want to get it setup to do PETG, but this machine isn’t the best suited for that right out of the box.
I got v3 printed last night. Dunno if I will get a chance to mess with it this weekend or not.

The fit is pretty good. A little tight, but I might be able to run it without any legs.

Now its time to print the funnel Insert

Some amazing tech you have going on there. Very cool. -
The funnel is coming along nicely.

pr0wlunwoof Remarkable. I need a new toy, but my wife would say that it was a distraction to the projects I need to complete. She’s probably right!

Chef My wife would agree. I’ve been making toys for our 2 year old daughter so I catch a bit of a break with her. We have been contemplating getting one at work to print out custom brackets for specific installs we have to do so I’m killing allot of birds with 1 stone. I am actually thinking about buying a second one and customizing it to print specific materials.
