New category!

Chef suggested that we have a dedicated category for user recipes. In general, we are trying not to make too man categories but this seemed like something that would add value for our users (that’s you!) and it seemed like a no brainer! You can still post recipes wherever you want but if you have a full fledged recipe then like a Joe Hell Tex_77 or @Retired-RailRoader this is a good place to create a new topic and post that.
This should make it easier for people to find recipes that users have shared, the search function works well but as we have something like 20,000 posts it can be a lot to look through when you are trying to find a specific post. So, enjoy!
FYI I wouldn’t think we want to leave “what did everyone cook today” where it is but if you feel really strongly about this comment on it and we can figure it out.

So you want to move that thread to this category? Fine by me, I won’t be difficult today.

-
Tex_77 No, I was wanting to leave that where it is though this would be a more natural fit. We don’t like what it looks like when we move a topic to a new category.

Jonathon My 2 cents worth is to create a recipe main category under the Walton community heading and also to keep the “what did everyone cook today” under the bragging board. Sometimes people just want to show what they cooked. Perfectly placed in the “what did everyone cook today” under the bragging board, no detail recipe required. There are other examples where the specific recipe is appropriate an can be posted under the new Walton’s community category of recipes. Then, with each recipe, peoples inputs, and adjustments can be under the topic of that particular recipe.
I hope I’m making this somewhat clear, but there are a lot of expertise in this community. Sharing recipes seems right to me.

Chef Okay, so we will leave everything as it is and leave What did everyone cook today where it is. If you go to https://meatgistics.waltonsinc.com/category/2/waltons-community the bottom category is for user recipes and everyone should be able to post to it! Have at it!

Jonathon I guess what I was thinking, and I hope it lines up with what Chef thinks, is have a category for only recipes. Maybe call it MEATGISTICS COOKS or whatever. Have sub-category’s like soups, sausage, deserts, you get the idea. People put the recipe under the sub category it fits. The only thing is that we put ONLY the recipe and not get sidetracked like we do by starting with giving a recipe for sauerkraut hot dish that turns into a conversation about my kid in collage. (I’m as guilty as the next guy) There, I will get off my box now!

Jonathan, is there any way that all the comments be removed from the recipe section and just have the recipe?

I could see some value in being able to print out a recipe with some selected comments

kyle This is in line with what I originally thought the category would be.

Okay, so, I can get on board with that. Changing User Recipes so only original posts live there, no ability to add comments to a post? Austin will probably go for that, I will let everyone know.

Jonathon I absolutely see where this would be useful, but many of the comments are spins on the recipe or feedback as to their success/shortcomings.
Not sure if it is a programable factor, but if the comments spill over to a subcategory, that would be great.
In terms of censoring, don’t we have enough of that in our society already?

Jonathon In your vision will you allow the up-vote and down-vote option to remain so people can offer some feedback on the recipe once they have tried it??
Will you also allow some commenting capacity by the OP so they (the creator) can make adjustments on the original recipe if a PM feedback hit on a good point. I mean not to the original recipe but as an add-on modification or alternative variation? Original recipe should stand as originally written and any modification done in comments by OPs

It wasn’t my intent for censorship, I was just trying to have just recipes where you didn’t have to sort through a bunch of comments, as we all know a lot of times we get off track and all kinds of different things come up. I do see how a comment of an addition or subtraction to the recipe would be useful, always looking to improve on any recipe, I think that is what cooking is all about, find a recipe that you think you would like and then make it to your own tastes.

Jonathon Why are there SO Many non recipes in the “User Recipe” category?

Ridley Acres That might or might not be possible but it is a good idea. I think it will end up being no replies though. @DennyO Because no one has been moderating it from Walton’s end. We are going to be making some changes so it looks all uniform and then nothing aside from that will be able to be posted here.
