My wife likes to shoot and is a competent shot with a handgun and rifle. One thing she does not have is the hand strength to cycle most semiauto pistols. In her case, a 4" S&W K frame .38 special revolver is a good solution.
processhead revolvers are reliable and easy for most people to use. Nothing wrong with a good revolver. Some of the heavier trigger double actions are also hard for some folks with hand strength issue to either fire or fire accurately. I tell them to use the single action if it is both. Takes a little longer, but will get the job done.

Jonathon Jon: Just some advice from someone that has been there and done that. Please find a shooting range with good instructors and different firearms that they will either let the students shoot or rent for your wife. This will let your wife learn to shoot from people that are able to see and quickly identify problems and correct them before they become habits. Your wife will also get to shoot a number of different firearms in different configurations. That little Glock 43 might turn into something completely different by the end of the class.
My Loving and long suffering wife and my 2 daughters are shooters. My Eldest was the Women’s National Collegiate air pistol champion and a 2 time All American in women’s air pistol and a 2 time All American in Women’s Sport Pistol. Her name is the first to appear on the Melaragno Trophy https://competitions.nra.org/media/8193/tro-170-melaragno.pdf . I did not teach any of the 3 to shoot. I found instructors for them.
Idaho Smokey good advice. I’ve been a firearms coach/instructor for about 30 plus years. I tell people the same thing. Find a good competent instructor for your family members. It ussually makes the experience much better. Also figure out if you are learning for self defense, or sport. While sport shooting and competion is great, defensive firearms training is a different mind and skill set.
That is awesome to have your daughter at the top of that trophy. I felt the pride all the way to Ohio from your post. -

processhead Yes, confusion, it is a .380 like this, she detests shooting my 9mm thinking it has too much kick so the .380 is a nice option for her.
bocephus I’ve tried to get her to shoot my .22 magnum henry lever action and she has had no interest, BUT I am hoping that changes once she has her own gun. This is such a huge change in opinion for her and makes me really happy! Sometimes I dont know how I come off when I talk about my wife cause I do things like intentionally use an annoying voice when I am imitating her (which sounds nothing like her) or make her out to be a robot but I love her fiercely and am always super proud of her but maybe not ever as much as when she said she wanted to be able to protect herself if she ever got into a bad situation.
I think she (and lots of other people) are seeing that they can’t rely on the authorities, or anyone else to either be there or do anything to save them when you are in danger, you have to be able to save yourself. To some people that means a firearm and to some people it means jujitsu. In general, running away is almost always the best option in a fight but it isn’t always an option.

Idaho Smokey Our old Customer Service manager here Ashley is an instructor at a shooting range right down the road from us. My wife’s gun arrived last night and the bore site bullet I bought for her arrives today so we are going to be doing a lot of dry fire practice and then in a week or so we are going to get some training for her. Her taking a class was pretty much a prerequisite of her buying this. That was her idea, not mine, obviously, she is more open to stuff like that than I am, but even I took the concealed carry class even after KS passed constitutional carry. I am usually not one for colorful guns but…that actually is a really cool color combination.
Austin If I was to order a Walton’s Orange Ruger for myself do you think Walton’s would be interested in “sponsoring” me? Just a joke!
On a side note, I am getting a little frustrated with palmetto state armory. I ordered the rest of what I needed on the 31st and only 1 thing has shipped show far. When I ask they just say due to increased demand it is taking longer than normal. Now, having gone through that during covid on our end I am sympathetic but they don’t seem to want to tell me what is holding it up so I could cancel that portion and order something that is in stock. Righttobear sent my order out the next business day. Previously I have liked my orders from PSA, has anyone noticed anything similar or am I just running into a one off issue?

Just my opinion, there would be way fewer accidental shootings if a person had to take a test and recite from memory the 10 rules of firearm safety before they could own a gun.

processhead I took gun safety when I was young, dad said no hunting without it. In MN you used to be able to hunt without a license, just use your hunter safety certificate I think until 15. When my wife wanted to start shooting she went to hunter safety with a friend here in NM.

In Nebraska hunters between the age of 12 and 29 need to have a hunter education training certificate to purchase a hunting license. Older hunters are “grandfathered”, but under the current system, eventually all hunters will have had hunter education training.

processhead .38 ACP 1911 story time. As a young Sergeant assigned to the range, I was the only one working on the range when a local historic park employee brought in a confiscated Colt 1911 .38 ACP that the Dayton Police Department took off of John Dillinger when he was arrested in 1933. They were asking me to disable the gun by welding the barrel or some other permanent disabling measure. After begging them not to ever do that, I figured out a way to disable it without destroying it. I don’t want to get into details since the gun is still on display. I told them I would need a few minutes and of course began looking for any .38 ACP we might have had in our ammo inventory. Well maybe I did and maybe I didn’t get to fire one round out of the gun before disabling it. So about 71 years after his arrest, I can say that I disabled John Dillinger’s 1911 .38 and kept it’s historic value. The gun had been engraved and awarded by the Courts to the then Chief of Police Rudy Wurstner. Chief Wurstner’s family donated the gun to Dayton History and even included a copy of the Jewelry shop receipt when it was engraved for Chief Wurstner. The last time I visited, the gun was still on display at Carillon Historical Park. I ordered on the 30th of last month, just today they finally have sent the final things and it will be sent in a total of 6 different packages. 2 of them with a “custom carrier” that offers no tracking information. Now, I like them in general so I am hoping there is a good reason for this that as a first-time gun builder I am unaware of but I split the order between them and righttobear and they sent my full order the very next business day.

I have not dealt with them personally, but my guess is Palmetto is drop shipping separate items directly to you from their suppliers/subcontractors to avoid delays from having to reship them to you after they get them. Typical supply chain delays.

Jonathon Having hunter safety is a requirement more and more states are requiring in order to buy a licenses. I think it is a good thing and is pretty easy in most states to take the courese on line or in person. Even if a person isn’t going to hunt it is a good idea to take the course, it stresses gun safety.

I figured every state required hunter ed. It was required in Kansas when I first started hunting in the early 80’s.
