Retired157 Had a Brittany that was quite a dog, she was a great dog and I learned so much training her, nice change for a lifetime Lab person, but I still have a Lab.

Yep, I went through three labs when I was into duck & goose hunting heavy. The BEST part about bird hunting is watching your dog work… mesmerizing! I too do all of my own training.
Smokey & I hunt grouse and again, the fun I have watching that boy hunt… it’s everything! The other nice thing about Griffons are that from a ‘shedding’ perspective, they almost don’t! I’d not say they are non-shedders like say a poodle, but they are pretty darn close. Yes, Smokey looks like an old hairy ‘rug’ mess but he doesn’t shed.

Retired157 looks like a Spinone. Ours just turned 7 months and she is a busy one and loves the snow.IMG_20211213_012439.jpg

We have had a German wirehair, a Brittany, cocker spaniel and a basset as hunting dogs. The GW was the hardest working but also the most hard headed, the spaniels the easiest going and the basset the mix of the two former. The Spinone seems to be a blend of all those breeds. Looking forward to this fall hunting and this upcoming spring training.

Oh she’s beautiful! You’ll have lots of fun with that girl… Hang On! Smokey was four this year… and still a pup. I now understand why Griffon owners say that if you want a ‘pup’ for life, get a Griffon!

All of us with our chosen ‘pets’, understand just exactly what joy they add to our lives.

I forgot to mention when I was telling everyone about Smokey that not only do I use him to grouse hunt, but I also trained him to ‘shed’ hunt. This is crazy fun! You should introduce your girl to this talent. It gives your ‘best buddy’ something else to do while you’re out wondering the woods.

Retired157 that is something I will have to try. My GWP I used for upland bird, waterfowl, rabbit, etc… I just needed to get him on the scent and it was game on. But he had to do it his way, the hardest hunting dog we ever had.

Retired157 USPS says Monday, says it is still in Kent as of last night which is about 40 miles from me and a hub. Not sure whether they will put it on a truck or plane. Alaska Air only has one flight out of Seattle to GF everyday and it’s a one day roll by long haul truck. USPS usually goes by air if it is over 600 miles which you are.

YooperDog My dogs have all loved the snow, don’t get much here in NM but when we would go to MN for Christmas, they had a blast digging through the snow. The first time we went back home with my first yellow lab my Mom was so worried that it he was going to be too cold. I was doing dishes one evening and he was outside asleep on top of a snowbank, called my Mom over to see him, told her he was either frozen or doing alright in the snow.

Just checked now and it’s listed as ‘Out for Delivery’. Our mail usually arrives later afternoon so I think I will spend some time today ‘laying’ things out… organizing. My wife says she’s going to Lewistown today to see her girlfriend for a few days, so it would be a perfect time for me to get this Summer Sausage thing done… and have a beer! : )

I’ll keep you posted but it appears that the ‘time’ has come.

Ok John… as I sit here waiting on the mailman, I’ve been getting things laid out in the garage and running around town a little. Here’s my ‘stuff’ as I prepare for the big day tomorrow.

                                    b1dc2e40-23ff-47c8-9bd8-d116b9038699-6287D7D2-FA00-4EC1-B08A-FBAD4832F9B8_1_201_a.jpeg /Users/Ron/Pictures/Ron’s Photos Library.photoslibrary/resources/renders/6/6287D7D2-FA00-4EC1-B08A-FBAD4832F9B8_1_201_a.jpeg

Just trying to make sure that everything I will need is out where I can get to it. I have all the grinder parts in the freezer so they’ll be cold. Do I lube them before the freezer trick or after… ?

I’ve got all my meat out and thawing. I’ll watch it as the day goes on and put it in the refrigerator before it completely thaws… trying to keep it frosty.

Got my wood, Hickory, ready for the smoker when the time comes. I’m going to use those ‘disposable’ baking pans for water/humidity for the smoker. Went and got a couple of sponges to aid in the evaporation process; even ‘equipped’ them with two ‘wicks’ each… just thought it might help keeping that ‘upward’ draw. Here’s a pic…

Yes; I even made myself a ‘fake’ SS… just trying to get the ‘fit’ right both here in the smoker and also my Sous Vide cooler cooker.

Just about ready to measure/weigh out my spices & additive’s. I have to run back to the store and grab two bags of ice; forgot that as I was out but hey, I did remember the beer!

Ok John… as I sit here waiting on the mailman, I’ve been getting things laid out in the garage and running around town a little. Here’s my ‘stuff’ as I prepare for the big day tomorrow.

Just trying to make sure that everything I will need is out where I can get to it. I have all the grinder parts in the freezer so they’ll be cold. Do I lube them before the freezer trick or after… ?

Retired157 I would lube it just before you put it together for grinding
