bocephus not even close, probably 5 to 1 with Austin ! This one isn’t going back, I can’t wait to shoot this gun, hoping my wife is interested in shooting it too. Dr_Pain thanks it was a long drought! Thank ti everyone for the congratulations I don’t know why but I had a feeling when i bought these tickets I was gonna win. I am on my way to a collection which means it’s time for a gun safe. Anyone have brands they like?

You pretty much have to decide if you want a gun safe or a gun cabinet. Safes generally start at about $1000, locking cabinets can be had for much cheaper. Safes offer more protection and are usually fire rated. It really is like everything else in life, the more you spend the better you get.

Jonathon there are alot of safes out there. Some are fire rated some are not. Many of the “safes” on the market are glorified gun cabinets. If you want to spend a little more, Liberty makes a good product. I bought one for work and really like it as far as build and security. I have two at home, one is a Remington branded safe with no fire resistant material inside. The other is a Sentinel by Stack On and it is fire rated, which basically means its lined with drywall inside. You need to consider where you will be putting it when it comes to fire rating. I would worry more about the security end and ease of access when needing to get in. We also have a lightweight safe at work that is marketed by Hornaday that has an RFID lock system for easy access with the RFID tag. My favorite one at home is the Sentinel/Stack On. It has an electronic keypad. What ever you buy, make sure it gets bolted down from inside. During my career, I saw a lot of safes carried away from houses and businesses and some were pretty darn big.

Jonathon I agree with GWG8541 get a quality safe that can be secured from the inside and firesafe. I like Liberty but there a a few others out there good too.

Safe should be bolted to the floor and wall to prevent rocking it loose.

Jonathon check out Dunn’s sporting goods, they are one of the largest retailers of safes in the country and usually have some pretty good deals. I’m not sure what their shipping options are like, they are based out of Missouri.

Thanks for everyone’s opinion, I think I do want more of a cabinet than a safe. I feel like my situation might be a little unique, I have no kids nor are kids ever in my house without my wife or I and their parents, so I am not worried about that. I also never have a house that doesn’t have at least 1 of my dogs in it, who will consume anyone trying to enter my house. We’ve had people try to give Brutus treats while we aren’t there to see how he would react if someone tries to distract him with peanut butter, and while he drooled more he didn’t stop snarling, so unless they are willing to kill him I think we are safe there. We also no longer board him while we go somewhere, he says at the house and our neighbor takes care of him. Basically if my wife could bring Brutus with her wherever she went I’d feel a lot safer!

                        False sense of security?

Jonathon Had a cabinet and changed to a safe, you can also keep other valuables locked up. Again your choice entirely I would get a cabinet with a lock, I think most have them, for when you have people over with kids because you just never know. Also keep ammo separate from guns unless for home protection.

Jonathon I dont have a safe either but I probably should. My kids know that guns aren’t toys and they are very respectful. I have an oak gun cabinet that my Dad built that holds most of my long guns and it has a locking cabinet below where I store ammo. I do have overflow upstairs in our bedroom closet. I may have too many guns…wait…no that is not possible…lol!

Jonathon We also use our safe as a place to keep important paperwork, so it’s not just a one stop shop. Though maybe I should get one specifically for paperwork and hide it somewhere else…

I have a safe but it doubles as a paperwork and guns and ammo it is one big thing it weights in at 750# empty so with guns and ammo it isn’t going anywhere

I would feel terrible if I knew someone stole a gun from me and used it to hurt someone else. I kind of feel we have that responsibility, no matter how remote the odds seem.
