My local grocery has Duroc half bellies for $4.99/lb. At that sort of pricing I just stick to Wright Brand bacon from Sam’s Club which is WAY better than the Costco bacon.

My local Sam’s is about as clean as a dirty Wal-Mart, it’s also a pain in the butt to get to.

The one and only Sams Club on Long Island while close to me is also not very good. Costco and BJ’s are all over the place here. We have 3 Costcos within 10 miles of each other and the same with BJ’s. I’m a member of Costco & BJ’s. While both are very similar there are enough differences to warrant both memberships.

GWG8541 For sure, haven’t been back in 5 years actually, my Costco is much easier to get to, they have the few things we buy in bulk.

HerbcoFood we have 3 Sam’s closer than our one Costco in our region.

Dr_Pain I have both. I like Sams better for most items we buy, but I picked up a COSTCO membership last year at a half price special. For us, if I had to chose I’d stay with Sams, but both are nice. I have the Plus with Sams and get cash back there. I only have the basic a Costco because they are a lot further away.

GWG8541 We don’t have Sam’s Club around here anymore, they closed them all several years ago. This is Costco’s home base. The nearest Sam’s is in California over 1000 miles away

samspade I’m only 60 miles from Seattle, we have lots of Costco’s since the headquarters are based in Issaquah which is 60 miles away. Of course the Costco’s are all about the same drive away between 24 and 30 miles and within that range there are at least five. Sam’s pulled out of the entire state maybe five years ago for reasons unknown.

HerbcoFood they were always packed, but the property locations were pricey. One was located at a Super Mall that pretty much went out the door when the Sam’s left.

johnsbrewhouse Sams beat COSTCO into this area by at least 10 years. Ill keep both cards for awhile. One of the problems with COSTCO for us is its the only one around. At peak hours its packed. Sam’s can get busy at times, but my closest one is only 5 miles and the other two are about 10 and 15 miles away in opposite directions. The COSTCO is over 15. Im surprised they haven’t opened a second one near here based on the business they do. The next closest is about an hour away.

GWG8541 All the Costco’s take me between 45 to 60 minutes to get to, that’s the price I pay for living semi-rural. The closest store is 6 miles in what used to be the small town of Yelm where they only used to have one traffic light, now no more.

johnsbrewhouse after visiting my family in Tennessee, who live out in the Great rural areas. You are better to make the drive. We only need to go to those stores occasionally, but you live in paradise every day.

Not sure how much feed cost we have into these, but I’m sure it’s cheaper than $5/#

Harvested 2 of 5 over the weekend. These girls were about a year old and had an amazing fat cap.

Still have to finish cutting and wrapping, but since it’s 35 degrees here in SE WI they can hang around until I get to them. There will be more pics to come.

Used the folding table leg extenders like PapaSop , thanks for that, it was a real back saver.

Put two 5 lb. bellies into brines today. I didn’t realize they had been sitting so long in in the bottom of the chest freezer. They held up well since they were vacuum seal from the factory and at the very bottom. Made a maple sugar cured and a corned cure bacon. The corned one will end up a a pastrami bacon. I’ll lull them November 15 and put the smoke to both just before I have to head for Vegas for a conference for a couple of days. I still have 15 lbs. of bellies left in the freezer bank.

Ok, so. Been all over town today and called a few out of town. Lowest price I found was $4.49lb. Local Sam’s no longer carry bellies. All the butcher shops were at $4.99. May just pick up a few pounds just because I want to try my own bacon.
Anyway, putting in a Walton’s order today. Going to get the dry rub cure and a couple hangers.

Well… Just finished my shopping list. Wow!
$1300.78. Think it’s time to take a breath and reevaluate this. LOL
There’s just so many “things”. Hmm.
