Dr_Pain Yeah, i should have said 6 months emergency food supply that is good for 20 years or something. Question on the MREs, I here they are good for about 1 year, can anyone say if that is close to accurate? if so, do they lose flavor and quality after 1 year or do they truly spoil?
Machete is a good one, I am going to need that to go along with the |8in-Granton-Edge-Butcher-Knife

Bleach is a good one, though I have a lot fo vinegar
Antibiotics…I think you need to go to a Dr for that and I am a well known and well accomplished Dr avoided!

Austin Do you think he has anything good in his freezer or is it all frozen carrots, tofu, and turkey bacon?

Tex_77 No, that freezer is mine, my wife will have to get buy on grass and leaves I guess? It would be an interesting experiment to see how long it would take her to start eating beef regularly. I got her to eat a few steaks this year so we are slowly winning that battle!

Jonathon MRE’s have a shelf life of 5-10 years depending on storage temp, if stored over 75 degrees they will degrade in quality quickly.

Jonathon I agree with Tex. Bleach or kerosene would be used as a disinfectant. I also definitely value the vinegar also.

Added to that list (provided you have an electric source I would say that a freeze dryer would be a great resource to have on hand. To the tool set a shovel for sure because if you kill intruders you will have to bury them unless you do like Vlad the Impaler (use them as a deterrent) or use the corpse as bait to attract your food source.

Life is good. have plenty of cigars and booze. a good lawn chair to watch the show going on around you. Share what you have with friends and family. then park the car in the garage with the motor running and a dvd of the “Holy Grail” on the laptop

Jonathon I know MRE’s are popular, but home canning is cheaper, better tasting, and last a lot longer.

I always run experiments when I can. Soups, meats, sauces, vegetables. Just about anything except cheese products.

I have cans that I have put aside just to monitor shelf life. Most are going on 7 years, typically I just quit when it gets that duration.

I have chicken, pork roast, beef stew, many types of soups. All it takes is a good pressure cooker/canner and minimum skills. I can do about 19 quart jars at a time. Also doubles as the best way to cook beans that you can do. 15 pounds of pressure for 20 minutes and you get the best red beans, or any type of beans you can cook.

I think it is well worth the investment.

So, bought a chest freezer this weekend and am rapidly filling it halfway, leaving the other half for venison. Case of 9mm came in today, I have 250 shotgun shells mixed between bird, turkey, buck and home defense. I have a 50 gallon barrel that my wife says she can use to distil clean drinking water and 2 rather large intimidating canine friends who would eat anyone who tried to hurt my wife. What am I missing?

I’m with Departing Contestant… You need some cigars, tobacco, something with nicotine in it stocked up.
I’m not as concerned with basic first aid as I am for some real trauma. I keep trauma packs in my go-bag for the scenario where there is intense bleeding or something major life-threatening. For Jonathon, that means a couple of gallons of industrial-strength super glue to dump on a wound to stop the bleeding! Lol!

“A pack of lips”? Why did Mick Jagger just come to mind?

Sitting in my chair surrounded by my family. Can of beer with a bourbon chaser, some smokes, ribeye on the grill and a couple of fingers pointed to it all. Some CCR or Zager and Evans playing in the background.

Departing Contestant Holy Grail is a nice touch!
Jonathon Venison? You plan on getting some?
