kyle I don’t hate the idea of a two-step verification for a downvote but I don’t want to get rid of it. I know it is hit sometimes accidentally but I can see some valid reasons where it might be used and specifically I want to give people the option to downvote what WE post. It would let us know if we A) crossed a line, B) people were uninterested in what we were saying or worst of all C) we put out bad information. We aren’t perfect guys, we do our best and after doing this for 7 years I’ve accumulated lots of knowledge but we can still be better!

How is the two step downvote thing looking. I just looked at my profile and saw I downvoted some posts again that I never meant to. Hopefully by now people know it’s a mistake, but we seem to have a lot of new people in our community , I dont want them to think we are snobs

kyle Double check to make sure you are really down voting. Here is what I have observed happening at times; I click to give someone an upvote. Then I note there is no new tally. So, if you upvote it again, it will down vote it. Instead, if you think you upvoted & it did not upvote, scroll your rat over the tally & see if your name is not listed there. If it is, you have upvoted, the system is just not showing it yet, so do not hit it again or it will down vote. If you do not see your name listed in the tally, try hitting it again & see what happens. I know, that sounds like a really crazy explanation. Smoking Tuna fish with Walton’s Siracha Ginger Beer & Lemon Pepper with peach wood & trying to get these reports finished.

calldoctoday when I checked in my profile, it showed I downvoted post that I know I did not up or down vote (at least on purpose). I am wondering if it’s when I’m scrolling with my finger on my phone. Maybe hitting the button?

So I was just looking at the settings page on my profile and it showed I down voted 2 post. I don’t know if it was my fat fingers or what, but if It was your post I didn’t mean to do it. I changed them back. Jonathon , can we get rid of the down vote button, or at least make it a 2 step process or something to make it harder to do.

I think we all just need to realize that a downvote doesn’t mean someone hates what you said or you, they might have fat fingered it (I’ve done it) they might disagree with what you said or they might just be an ass. We have asses on this sits (his name is Austin) I’m leaving dow votes because I want people to have the ability to tell us they don’t like something we did or said.

Jonathon Check what I was saying earlier, that may be the mistake issue anyways. As for the rest, I suppose it happens, especially if we are not being courteous, etc.

Dang. Just found two posts I had inadvertantly down voted. Worst part is they were great posts. Think I got them corrected.

Hover over the upvote tally after you select the upvote, if you see your name there, you likely upvoted, even if the number did not register yet. Don’t select the upvote a second time or it will cause a downvote. Of course as Jonesy said, if you hit it again a third time or otherwise at a later date, it will then upvote again. I tried to explain that earlier, but apparently did not do a good job of explaining the random discovery.

I use an iPhone most of the time to post and all. I find that if I click a picture to zoom or whatever I have to close out totally, reopen page, and find where I was in the post again. Anyone know if there is a way to get back to the post without having to do all that?

wdaly It happens and I go through my votes as well to correct my mistakes.
It feels bad when we get a down vote, I know I’ve had a few. Most were by mistake.
I wonder if there is a verification process that could be added. Jonathon is there a way that a negative vote could generate a question like “are you sure you want to place this negative vote”?
It just could prevent hard feelings when nothing negative was intended. Thanks,

Dr_Pain You know, now that I think about it, I think your question is very valid. Just why is there an option of a down vote.
If you don’t like something or don’t agree with it, then either offer a different opinion or just ignore it. No need to cut someone down.

wdaly I have found the same thing with mine and I don’t remember down voting any post and wouldn’t except when Jonathan talks about team blue and then he knows it is in jest.

wdaly I’m with you. I check every so often and have to correct a few down votes. It is definitely a fat finger thing because I would never down vote a post. If I don’t like something I just scroll on.

What annoys me is that sometimes when I upvote it doesn’t register. The counter stays 0 but if I hover over the 0 it shows I upvoted it. I’ve done some searching for similar problems on the same service we use and can’t find a fix.
