YooperDog I put out a mushroom bed about 7 months ago.I had a small flush last week to get a little taste.I had always wanted to do it so gave it a shot. Hopefully i does ok.
RON PARRISH first mushroom beds for me. The first flush was easily over 5 lbs. Things slowed a bit to a couple every day. More 'shrooms than I knew what to do with them. Gave a couple of lbs away.

YooperDog our raspberry and strawberry patches did great this year. Still picking raspberries. Finally picked our first green beans. Only thing that did really good was cabbage. Normal year I make my kraut first week of October. I think Iβm going to have to do it next week before the heads split. Cucumbers are just starting to form now
kyle I have been picking raspberries since the second week of July. I have been gathering on the average a quart a day, blueberries have started about a week ago along with thimble berries. Blackberries have just started to ripen, about a 7-10 days and they will be going well. I will be busy with wines this winter.

we are still getting raspberries here and marionberries. The wild blackberries wonβt be ready for 3-4 weeks. We are several weeks ahead this year with the unusual hot weather. Suppose to have several hot days this week 90+ degrees then a bit cooler.
johnsbrewhouse this yearβs weather is changing schedules up for sure.

Starting to see goldenrod in SE, WI which is usually an indicator of the end of summer for most. The bees have gathered sooo much honey this year, but I have some finishing touches to put on my antique honey extractor before I can harvest the honey. Anyone else wonder where did the summer go?

Had to pick green beans again. I just picked them four days ago, actually three days because I picked a small batch on Monday. I got 3 3/4 lbs. this morning, needed to get them picked before the heat hits this afternoon. Going to have to harvest some cucumbers and yellow squash in the next couple of days before they get to big.

johnsbrewhouse Nice looking beans

glen It is still very much summer here too, but starting to see the signs that the season will be changing very soon. Which has some degree of anxiety to come along with it. Too many things left to get done before the cooler weather comes, but harvest means reaping the benefits of all the hard work put in so far this year.

All that mushroom, Raspberry, & Blueberry picking is amazing! Too hot & humid here for much. Hopefully the Fall weather will be here soon.

YooperDog Do you think that home-picked mushrooms are much better than store-bought in taste?

Jonathon the variety that I have is called Wine cap. It has a slight asparagus flavor and maybe bit meatier than the store bought mushrooms. I filled up two paper grocery bags with the initial flush. I will try drying some, freezing some and eating a whole bunch. I grew up eating fresh mushrooms picked by grandparents so this brought back a bit of nostalgia, but I like fresh mushrooms a lot.

YooperDog Same here on the mushrooms. Ate a ton growing up. My Grandparents were Polish & Czech. It seemed like everything had some mushrooms or mushroom broth in it. I tied to grow a setup in the basement years ago and only got two harvests off of it. I think itβs a little to dry here in Colorado, not enough humidity.

Bob Stehlik friend of mine grew a oyster mushroom deal, I was in the room for 10 minutes talking and looking at it and my throat swelled shut. Not all the way of coarse but it definitely made me nervous. Really weird because I can eat all mushrooms just fine.

twilliams I can see that happening because the medium used tends to get a mold on it and there could be some airborne irritants.

Bob Stehlik deep Polish ties here. Mushrooms were a kitchen staple for all meals. My patch is outside on the edge of a tree line.
