I love the ease of my pellet cooker, and there’s some things that I swear by it for, but not steaks. If you’re not cooking a steak over charcoal, you should just cook it on the stove in a cast iron pan (which is a delicious steak, not knocking it).

I am always amazed that people consider charcoal too much work. Light a fire. Fire hot? Cook. Done, shut it down. Fire out? Take it inside. What’s so hard about that?

Tex_77 Youre out of your mind thinking a pellet grill can’t cook a great steak! We will settle this during the meatgistics meatup!

johnsbrewhouse see I look at as, using charcoal gives me time outside with the kids and a chance to drink a few beers and listen to some tunes.

Charbroil, turn the knob, push the button, grill the steak, turn the knobs off, take inside and eat. Easy peasy, Japaneasy. Tonight’s Rib-eyes via the Charbroil. Seven minutes to done and yum. IMG_0124.JPG

johnsbrewhouse No one said propane wasn’t easy. People are saying that charcoal is too hard for them, and that’s why they don’t use it. I am simply pointing out that it is not, in fact, too much work.

I will chime in again, though, to mention that there was a guy who won an SCA comp last weekend on a pellet. It’s not common, but it can happen. The Smokin Brothers pellet Smokers are a really good grill, made in America (Missouri, actually), and their heat wave system will allow a good sear directly on the grates with no side burners, etc.

Midwest_kc I have used their pellets before and they left a ton of ash compared to Treager pellets or Lumberjack. I also hadn’t seen there new line of grills until I just checked out there website.

I’ve never used their pellets, I generally use bbqers delight, but their grills really are a good product. I don’t own one, but I work part time at a dealer, and we have a burn unit we use to cook on, and I would like to trade in my GMG for one, if my wife ever relents, lol.
