I haven’t lived in the Lubbock area since 1985, been awhile when you put it that way. So unfortunately I can’t help you out there. Yes, as they say up here eh’ God’s country. Biggest city near us is Marquette, we live among the trees and wildlife here. Winter is still in full swing and have 2+ feet of snow on the ground

YooperDog Nice, it was in the 70’s yesterday here, and mid 60’s today. Tomorrow is a different story, we are suppose to have single digit windchills.

My wife likes the central/south central areas of TX, but not a big fan of the big bugs and snakes. We have been spending more time down that way each year.

YooperDog I want to get down to Big Bend Country and see Marfa and the likes, we also love the hill country and Amarillo! West Texan’s are just like Western Kansan for the most part.

Try to get to SAT for the lights on the River Walk. We may start spending more time down that way as we are getting tired of the long winters and needing a way to break it up. I still like my ice fishing though and not a fan of crowds.

I will have to check in when we head that way. We have the TX hill country on our bucket list

YooperDog I’ve done the River Walk, but it was back in my younger day. I do want to get down there soon though. May try and make it there this summer if we got to Kerrville.

YooperDog out of the archives for this one. Since you have now enjoyed Perini Ranch Steakhouse, please post your review of it.

Tex_77 I did post one out there on their website, but for the folks here The Perinni’s Steakhouse in Buffalo Gap, TX is worth it’s out of the way location for a great steak and unique atmosphere. My wife and I just came back from a trip through the TX hill country, blue bonnets are in full bloom through out. Stopped in on our way from Fredericksburg to Abilene. I had the ribeye and my wife had the tenderloin. Both cooked to perfection and seasoned well. Service was great and attentive. This is a come as you are place not fancy, but comfortable. It is highly recommended that you make reservations. Thanks again Tex_77 for the heads-up on this place.

It’s no longer around, but one of our favorite places was The Boondocks on the south fork of Taylor Bayou, south of Beaumont, Texas. It was great food in beautiful surroundings and certainly worth the hike out there. Part of the fun was looking and the gators and tossing hush puppies into the bayou to watch the turtles go after them.

I’m thinking I may have to visit some family in Texas soon! We have several restaurants in western NY, but the main one I’d sat that tops my list is any Brazilian steakhouse! Nothing better than endless meat!!! We actually used to go to Canada often for copacabana, best Brazilian steakhouse I’ve been to yet!

Had to find the picture on the internet, but we went here a few years ago on a trip to San Diego. Was a great place to eat fresh fish and chowder.

Well found a new one today, basically out in the middle of a bunch of corn fields in Nebraska. It’s between Holdrege and Axtell, NE. Its called the Speakeasy. The building was originally a feed and general store. The food was amazing.

Tex_77 I drive by there a couple of times a year on the way to McCook when we go pheasant hunting. Guess we need to stop in at lunch time.

What is the most unique/remote restaurant you guys have ate at? I’ll start it off with one of the best steakhouses in the United States, Perini Ranch Steakhouse. It is located on a former working ranch just South of Abilene Texas. You have to do go down dirt roads to get to it, but the food is amazing. Tom Perini the name sake of the restaurant has catered meals at the White House, and Perini Ranch was even featured in the PBS series BBQ with Franklin. They grow many of there own vegetables in gardens on the ranch, and have outdoor seating as well. Tom also has 2 cookbooks out now that I would highly recommend if you are into cowboy/coutnry cooking. It is definitely probably one of the coolest places I have ever ate.

Tex_77 I’ll second that. It has been over 20 years since I had the good fortune to stop in one day. They said they only took reservations, but they found a place for me anyways, the first time. One of the very few I found to have liked & did them both on one month long run.

Tex_77 Not sure why, but this is the first time I’ve really seen this post. What a great post idea. I like talking to locals and seeking out the hole in the wall places when I travel.
In Ohio there is a Mennonite community near Bainbridge, Ohio. The Country Crust Bakery is on State Route 41. Besides all of their fantastic baked goods, they make awesome sandwiches. My favorite is their Ruben sandwich on a fresh pretzel bun.
I’ve been to alot of obscure places to eat, but one of my favorite BBQ places is in Tennessee. It is in an old gas station/country store. It is Excell BBQ Market 3102 Ashland City Rd, Clarksville, TN. I was told not to judge a book by it’s cover when the person recommended it to me. They were right. -
