<![CDATA[Most unique/remote restaurant you have ate at]]>What is the most unique/remote restaurant you guys have ate at? I’ll start it off with one of the best steakhouses in the United States, Perini Ranch Steakhouse. It is located on a former working ranch just South of Abilene Texas. You have to do go down dirt roads to get to it, but the food is amazing. Tom Perini the name sake of the restaurant has catered meals at the White House, and Perini Ranch was even featured in the PBS series BBQ with Franklin. They grow many of there own vegetables in gardens on the ranch, and have outdoor seating as well. Tom also has 2 cookbooks out now that I would highly recommend if you are into cowboy/coutnry cooking. It is definitely probably one of the coolest places I have ever ate.

They served a steak sandwich on a half loaf of french bread with A1, peanut butter and orange marmalade. I still make one every now and then.

It was way out in the middle of nowhere, high on a hill. It used to be an old dairy farm & the barn was turned into a restaurant of sorts. It did not look all that restauranty at all, but the cooking was good & the price was right. No atmosphere at all, but cannot eat that atmosphere. It was still in the 90’s & as I recall on Saturday night I could get a decent rib steak with kraut for $3.00 still. I thought that was wonderful. I am going to try a few more out of the old waterlogged memory bank if I can, because although I ate out of a tin can most nights on the road, I would always look for some purely local cuisine to break it up on Saturday or Sunday night.

What a great post idea. I like talking to locals and seeking out the hole in the wall places when I travel.
In Ohio there is a Mennonite community near Bainbridge, Ohio. The Country Crust Bakery is on State Route 41. Besides all of their fantastic baked goods, they make awesome sandwiches. My favorite is their Ruben sandwich on a fresh pretzel bun.
I’ve been to alot of obscure places to eat, but one of my favorite BBQ places is in Tennessee. It is in an old gas station/country store. It is Excell BBQ Market 3102 Ashland City Rd, Clarksville, TN. I was told not to judge a book by it’s cover when the person recommended it to me. They were right.

It has been over 20 years since I had the good fortune to stop in one day. They said they only took reservations, but they found a place for me anyways, the first time. One of the very few I found to have liked & did them both on one month long run.

It’s between Holdrege and Axtell, NE. Its called the Speakeasy. The building was originally a feed and general store. The food was amazing.

We have several restaurants in western NY, but the main one I’d sat that tops my list is any Brazilian steakhouse! Nothing better than endless meat!!! We actually used to go to Canada often for copacabana, best Brazilian steakhouse I’ve been to yet!

It was great food in beautiful surroundings and certainly worth the hike out there. Part of the fun was looking and the gators and tossing hush puppies into the bayou to watch the turtles go after them.

My wife and I just came back from a trip through the TX hill country, blue bonnets are in full bloom through out. Stopped in on our way from Fredericksburg to Abilene. I had the ribeye and my wife had the tenderloin. Both cooked to perfection and seasoned well. Service was great and attentive. This is a come as you are place not fancy, but comfortable. It is highly recommended that you make reservations. Thanks again Tex_77 for the heads-up on this place.

Winter is still in full swing and have 2+ feet of snow on the ground

Tex_77 I will definitely do that. We lived in Lubbock and San Antonio a lifetime ago. I have family near the DFW area and get down to the Abilene area and such a couple of times a year. Looking forward to getting out on the bikes and burning some fossil fuel. We live about 1500 miles north of Abilene. I can’t say if I have ever ever been to Amarillo, but I always looking for a good meal.
