What does everyone do for a profession?

jpurol I’m in the Ada Oklahoma plant. I’m here now just waiting for 6am. What state are you in.
cdavis How is Ada doing these days? I have not been there in well over 20 years. Was on assignment there for about a month during the winter. Met a lot of Wonderful folks living in a wonderful place.

Nicolai I was talking to my neighbor this weekend who works for the largest BobCat dealership group in the US. Apparently business is a boomin’! lkrfletcher this is going to sound stupid but they did some cad drawings for my house and they colorized a bunch of stuff, it looked like the world or dungeon maps from old school video games like metroid!

PapaSop Yep I agree with you. Best thing I did was go with the electric trade. It is the advice I now pass on to anyone who will listen.
deweymeats PapaSop I know if I had live to do over, I would have become an electrician. I loved doing it, and when I take in account all the years and money invested in my too many degrees, I would have been much better off with a solid trade. College degrees are great, but not the goal for ever one.

cdavis I really enjoyed my stay in Ada & met a lot of very good folks. Found out several had even known my grandfather who passed through the area often a long, long, long time ago when the SFAT Railroad went through town. It is a small world we live in. I remember there was a long conveyor belt, don’t get me trying to lie to you about how long it was, but it was long, very long over on the sw side of town if I remember correctly & came from way on the outskirts of town to just closer to the middle. I keep thinking that was some sort of concrete plant or something, but I cannot remember for certain. If so, that is not the plant you work at is it? I also remember Martin’s Meat Market on the south side of town. They had some good sausage & meat & I took a lot home with me when heading out of Dodge back to home at the time. Wonderful place with lots of fond memories for just a short assignment.

cdavis Grain farmer & contract hog finisher in central Illinois. Between whitetail harvest & a few hogs that dont make it to market, i am usually exprimenting with how to make it into sausage.

calldoctoday your memory serves you well. We still have the railroad one of the few left around here. The conveyor belt you saw brings us rock and shale from our quarry. It’s 7 miles long and until a few years ago it was the longest conveyor in the world. I’m sad to say Martin’s meat market closed 3 years ago. It was a great place to get awesome sausages of all kinds. And part of the reason I am here learning to make my own. Thanks to you and everyone else on here for all the help.

cdavis Well, I am certain I have left out a number of things, but it is easy to remember a place & assignment that I enjoyed so much. Of course, on the other hand, I seem to be able to remember things better from 40 years ago or more than five minutes ago. Don’t work too hard tonight. Dave

I’m always curious what everyone does for a profession in these groups. It is always cool to see how diverse we are. I am a State Trooper and have been since 2007. Prior to that I worked many years in home construction and taught second grade right out of college.

I worked for a railroad for 30 yrs. I worked my way up to a Signal Supervisor and retired with the title of Project Manager for a major project called East Side Access. My screen name for many BBQ sites is Retired RailRoader. I use my name here since I watch all of Walton’s Livestreams and Podcasts on YouTube and if I should win anything on Walton’s it’s just easier to say I’m here on the Libestream.

I served in the USMC from 1966-1970 then work R&D for GE HealthCare in Milwaukee. Moved to Colorado and worked for Toshiba and Panasonic as a field service rep for 32 years. Got laid of at 56 years of age in 2004! Started a new career with the City of Aurora, Colorado in 2006 working in the Water Dept. PIO office division of Water Conservation. I am now retired for 7 years; everyday is Saturday! Love Walton’s and the entire Meatgistics community. Hope to be able to move back to Wisconsin (Up North!) this coming year or so.
