Chambered Sealers
-
Does the unit you are looking at use the same type of bags/film as the everyone else does? What are the advantages of the chamber style sealers?
processhead Bags are cheaper and they are smooth unlike the Foodsaver bags. They will seal liquids in as well and juices too where the external types will pull the liquids from the source in the bag. Most meat shop and processors use chamber sealers due to the reliability and long life of the machines as well as they tend to seal better the first time. Only drawback is the cost and space they take. After you buy your third or fourth foodsaver and bags, you could have bought one chamber machine. That is if you buy the high end foodsaver.

Yep. It’s just making the commitment and not dealing with buyers remorse. Argh. Sorry , probably just a me thing, but once it’s there I’m good!
PapaSop I was with you there, been looking at them for a couple of months, comparing prices. I found one for under 1K, it was $1 under, but it was under.

CHeck Craigslist. I got a nearly brand new vp210 for $500. I like the vp210 because there is no oil change. Maintenance free.

About ready to pull the trigger on one of these. Supply seems to be low or out. What’s up?
Looking at the VacMaster VP215 but really leaning towards the PrimaVac 254. Really don’t need anything larger.PapaSop I have the VP215, can’t speak for the 254 but I can say that the 215 is built like a tank. I have used it for near 10 years, for everything both for home and commercial use. It is a fantastic machine that I consider it like Hobart quality.

processhead What johnsbrewhouse said is spot on. The last thing I would add is that they last much much longer than a chamberless style. I always tell people you can make up the cost difference of the units pretty quickly with bags if you use a lot of bags. Since the bags can be smooth on both sides they are much less expensive. Plus, they come in more styles, you have foiled back, 3, 4, and 5 mil thick bags and some colored options as well.

Just found one on Amazon for $979… Hmm. The VP215.
-
PapaSop Good price too, I looked at the Amazon things, but there were some complaints about the supplier. I got mine from WebstaurantStore, free shipping plus closer warehouse to me. Sorry Waltons, it was cheaper and faster to get here, plus I use them for equipment too for our camp.

Thanks for the info. Will look into that supplier. Have upgraded all my equipment from Walton’s so far and the prices and deals have been incredible. But, no inventory on the VP215? Jonathon, Austin ? -
PapaSop We no longer stock the Vacmaster stuff. It is still nice equipment and I don’t have complaints on the quality. I have other issues that keep me from stocking and heavily promoting their products. We still have it all available to order, but it is special order only, which does add several days to the lead time. I don’t think it is a bad choice at all. I like the PrimaVac 254, but we are having issues with Hamilton Beach right now. Not in quality of product, but availability and corporate relations.
Ultimately, issues with vac machine suppliers caused us to go find and manufacture our own. That is in the works and they are scheduled for production in the coming weeks. It will still take us at least 3 months to get them, and most likely 4 months. If you don’t want to wait for a Walton’s brand, either VacMaster or PrimaVac is a good quality option still. Won’t look as pretty without an orange Walton’s logo on it, but other than that, they are just fine.

PapaSop I don’t have a final price on what our chamber model will be yet. It will most likely be $899 though. Still hoping that tariffs come to an end, and if so, we’d be able to drop that price by a lot.
-
Make the move to the chamber type. The bags are pennies and you can do liquids! Seal and vacuum are much better. Worth every penny!
msalmon I’ve been going to Alaska for 20 years to fish for sockeyes. I bag the fillets in 6mil x 8” lay flat tubing which comes in a 2000 ft roll for about $0.05 per foot. I made a device from two hypodermic needle tubes that are silvered to a piece of stainless wire and hold the bag open and allow a vacuum to be pulled. The needle are then pulled back to facilitate heat sealing. My old Foodsaver is a winner

Awesome. Didn’t know all the particulars. Will sit tight for a bit and see what you guy’s come up with.
It’s that thought of Orange that keeps the world moving.

Austin Can I get one in Blue?
-
Chef
Lol.
Yep, that VP215 has great reviews and changing oil is not a concern. Curious now to see what they come up with.
Being older now, waiting doesn’t seem to be much of an issue. Just means another glass of bourbon to bide the time.
But then again, anything with an Orange logo is good! Only thing “dark” is blue.

-
Tex_77 If you’d be willing to pay twice the price, I could probably get you one in blue.

I’ve had a vp 215 for 10 years. Best thing I ever bought. Have to agree on waltons price tho, they just are not competitive on price. Vacuum sealers unlimited is who I deal with, there prices won’t be beat and customer service is top notch. The owner usually gets back within a day.

Mark Spangler 0 They were out of stock just like quite a few of the places, they sell theirs for $995. Most are pre-ordering with a delivery date in February possibly.
