shipping with the brown truck

tarp FedEx I hear more about but we don’t generally ship them. It does often seem to be fed ex though when people post their door bell camera videos though!

Jonathon The only issue I have with FedEx is that the package is always delayed by 1-3 days from the scheduled delivery even though the tracking will indicate otherwise.
Joe Hell that’s because they delay it outside of Salt Lake City to change trailers and loose the tags. At first I thought the Long Haul driver had a girl friend there.

johnsbrewhouse When I track my FedEx shipments I’m surprised by the high number of locations that it passes through to towns of a few hundred people and other that barely dot the map. The other carriers are shipping hundreds of miles away from these locations at times so I understand the angle. My packages initially arrive within 4 hours from my location then will be held at a smaller facility 45 minute down the road before transferring to another 2 hours from there before making the 75 minute journey to its destination. It’s generally a 2-3 day delay. UPS on the other hand accepts my packages and will show few updates until they attempt a delivery on a day I can’t receive it several days in advance. Lol

Joe Hell I have a package that is sitting in St. Paul, MN right now, been there for 36 hours without moving. Suppose to get it on Monday. I don’t think it will make it. I’ll just ding the merchant for the costs, they can deal with FedEx for the late delivery. The more the merchants complain, the more compliant these delivery companies become or they loose the business.

Jonathon A few observations.
- I keep most of my boxes so I can go back and look at damages. I get about 6 to 10 packages a week from all over the country. Oddly, the only two damaged boxes were both from Waltons. One had more tape than box at delivery. To keep them honest, have you tried to ship packages of different sizes and weights to employees in the area as a check point to see if damages are being made at the point of origin.
- About a bit more than 50% of the other vendors are shipping in double walled boxes. Wouldn’t guess that stopping a few damaged goods would would be less than boxes with higher burst strengths. Amazon seems to be shipping items to me in doubled boxed for added protection, then again, I live about 10 miles from their distribution center. I just hate waste, and hope this may be of some help to both Walton’s and their customers.

Chef Yeah we have looked and do some shipping in double-walled boxes but from a cost perspective I believe it has been found to be too expensive, though please don’t hold me to that I am fairly far removed from that side of the business now.
I have shipped things to myself from here back to here by mistake by putting the wrong ship via in an order. We have never tried doing it for testing but it might be an interesting idea!

Update. My FedEx package sat in St. Paul, MN for two days without moving, just left at 2 AM this morning. It’s 1700 miles between us, they say it will be delivered Monday, Just had snow in the mountain passes last night which closed them for several hours, we have more snow on the way for the mountains tonight, up to 3 feet and it’s heading east. I don’t think they will make it on time as usual. Going to cost the vendor the shipping costs for being late. Now it is in BUCHANAN, VA, 2,753 miles away and the wrong direction. I guess it is getting frequent flyer miles. Know I won’t get it by Monday unless they send it Memphis and air freight it. Talk about dropping the ball. That’s why Amazon kicked them to the curb.

After having damaged goods arrive, I ship a lot of “found only in Texas” spices & sauces type stuff to family back home (ORE & WA) and have learned to put each item in its own zip lock bag and then individually bubble wrapped & and then packaged. Now only rarely will an item arrive damaged but it is contained so not to ruin the rest but a lot of times to outer box is toast

We’ll see how brown does. I have two orders coming from Waltons. They are already going to be late date to holidays and Sundays. Brown doesn’t drive seven days a weeks longhaul like all the other services. It always takes longer than the four days it should to reach me from Wichita to Washington.
