Any Mechanics?

Ok here is a scenario I had happen to my son. He had a continual knocking on a RH turn. I replaced front wheel bearings had the same knock. It ended up being a busted belt in the tire. To check move front tires to the rear and the rear to the front.

Denny Just had the tired replaced and I had the bearing checked and it is still happening. Ghosts?

Jonathon Could be a bad C/V joint as well

johnsbrewhouse Well, it is starting to happen when I am driving in a straight line as well. Not as bad but I can hear it. I removed part of a wheel well covering that had fallen and was hanging, I was really hoping it was something stupid and easy. Oh well, if I ever figure it out you can be sure I will let everyone know!

jonathon have you tried jacking up each front wheel and spinning it then place your your hands at 3 & 9 then push back and forth then at 12 and 6 then observe any play then have your wife work the steering back and forth while you look for any play in the connecting joints this will tell much and then pass it on to your mechanic or parts store and they can narrow it down from there

craigrice I have not done this but I will be doing it now, thanks for the advice! I did replace the CV joint on that side about 18 months ago.

there are different grades of parts out there depending on were and how much you spend, aftermarket parts do not always last as long as retail because of the quality of the product

Have her turn the steering wheel slightly back and forth not to much and have the truck sitting on all 4,
Does the noise come on a gradual curve? Right or left curve?
Sounds like a wheel bearing from what you described

@s-a-m I had the bearing checked and was told it was fine. when the car isnt in motion there is no noise when the wheel is turned. When driving it only happens when the car is turning or angling to the right.

what if any things are showing up on your dash ?

When turning right does the noise come from the left front wheel?

@s-a-m Yes, left front wheel. Happened the other day when I wasn’t turning.

Left wheel bearing! Needs checked that’s classic signs, in a right turn your putting more side load on the left bearing causing the noise

@s-a-m I had my mechanic check the wheel bearing and he said it was perfectly fine, he was tearing his hair out trying to figure it out.

Jonathon I’m with s.a.m I still say it’s the wheel bearing. I checked mine when it started making noise and it had no play in it. Two months later it was about to fall off.

Okay, I will call him today to confirm. I have started to occasionally hear it when going straight now, not all the time but occasionally.

If you do a slight weave side to side going down the road (carefully)!you will hear it one way not so much the other.

@s-a-m Yup that does happen. Okay, thanks guys I called my mechanic yesterday and asked him to call me and I’ll talk tohim again about the wheel bearing.
