What did everyone cook today?

Tex_77 I experimented with some pork ribs this weekend and they came out great. These were cut from ribs 1-5 with the ‘brisket’ or belly still attached. They took hours longer to cook than expected but the results were worth it!

Tex_77 I also did this…a couple tomahawks, pork tenderloin, Teriyaki beef short ribs, bone-in New York, and hanging tender/veggie kabobs

Joe Hell What, were you cooking for a team of T-Rexes? Just kidding, it all looks good. We went shopping for briskets, etc. yesterday, for the Re-Wedding this week, after I spent the morning getting things ready for another inspection that ended up getting cancelled for this morning. The price on beef has doubled, nearly tripled & stock is limited. No Butts at all on sale & no rain checks either. We are glad you had a Smoking Sunday & Fantastic Cooking as it all looks Fantastic!

We did not really cook at all. Still eating pork shoulder & beans from last week, as we were out on the road (Modern Day Hotel Hell) for three days last week doing inspections. One of my sons & his wife offered to cook, but only for the fathers & no mothers allowed. I just did not feel comfortable with that & asked him to save his money as steaks are expensive anyways, but worse now. I think the other father also followed suite after that.

Whatever you picked for them, I think that is was some awfully good food period, even better social distancing food. At least relative to what we discovered is now the norm in the hotels on the road now. Paper sacks to nothing.

Celebrating Father’s Day a little bit early and the first day of summer. Figured that qualified for surf and turf with a side of corn. A venison tenderloin and lobster slippers all done on the BGE.

Parksider My wife has become a closet collector. She blames me for her addiction because I brought her the pieces that got her started. I would say she gets a package about every week or two.

I’ve got a question, has anyone ever taken the leftover rib meat (they were enormous racks and we didnt finish them all) to make nachos, tacos, fajitas or anything?
I was thinking of making a sort of taco salad with the leftovers tonight.
Jonathon Never let anything go to waste. Fantastic mixing with the beans later to make a meal of its own. They make really good Nachos Supremo. Since now everybody is claiming dogs should eat bones (sorry folks, I am still having a hard time with that one, especially ribs as they were supposed to be the best) save the bones & simmer them later with vegetables for an excellent pork bone broth (& don’t no body go telling me pork broth is actually not good for you). I am sure I have come up with some other uses for the rib meat, but cannot think of it right now. I keep thinking I may have used a bit ground up with some pork & beef for homemade sausage to give it a little extra texture. Oh, & I know I have used a bit ground up or chunked into one of Uncle Crock’s Damn Good Chili recipes.

calldoctoday I’ve seen people giving their dogs pork bones, I was always told not to do that as they splinter when they are crushed. If it turns out we can/should my dogs are gonna be spoiled from all the pork I do here!

Jonathon Well, we have always given them to our dogs in years past & the neighbors & friends dogs as well as a treat. We have never seen any problem. However, a few years ago a neighbor asked us not to give bones to their dogs because they said they would eat them & they would sit in their stomachs (not like we would ever give out in little tiny bones & definitely not fish or chicken or turkey). So, curious, we did some research & sure enough, vets are now recommending that dogs not be given any type of bone due to bone splintering, etc. Amazing, wow, unbelievable! We always understood they were good for the dogs & the dogs loved us for them. Well, more bones for broth.

calldoctoday I had a friend who gave his Golden Retriever chicken and turkey bones all the time and never had a problem. Their wild brethren, wolves, coyotes, dingoes, and cats, etc. eat raw bones all the time. Makes me wonder if they have problems or can they digest the raw bones without a problem?

Fred I am with you. I have not figured it out as we have given our dogs & fiends dogs bones (No Turkey, Chicken, or Fish) for nearly 60 years of our lives with no problem. The wild brethren definitely eat all the bird ones they can, no problem. I am just not sure what to say, so I had better keep my mouth shut.
