I have the cabinet 30in master built smoker. My bro actually gave it to me when he moved and when I move and have more room I plan on up grading not that it is bad smoker or anything but I think I want more width rather than height.

We are testing out creating new groups based upon what smoker you own. Right now I have 1 for the Pk-100 and 1 for Masterbuilt. If people want I can split masterbuilt into a few different categories (but I don’t want to go totally nuts here) as I know they make a bunch, but to start this will make things easier. So, now if you have a question on a Masterbuilt or PK100 you can simply Masterbuilt or PK100 and it will notify everyone in that group!

So, to be useful people would have to go and join those groups. Let me know if you guys like this idea and what other groups for smokers or other pieces of equipment you want. Right now I have the badges showing but we can hide that if it starts to get too many badges next to our names.

Very good suggestions, all of us can benefit, whether we’re trying to improve our tech nicks or looking at a WTB (want to buy). Smokin Tex.

coladad Glad to find another PK Grill owner, I have the 360 and Darkfish89 has an original. As far as I know we are the only ones with PK Grills.

I like the idea of having groups for different types of smokers, but I’m a Weber fanboy so I want a bullet smoker group to talk Smokey Mountain and I’d say my Weber Summit kettle is more like a BGE, or Komado. coladad While I have a PK100 and a custom built wood with propane assist, I do get a bit tingly when I hear cookshack…

Jonathon I would think there would be more value if you broke them out by category of smoker. At the end of the day the recipes that would be discussed can be used across the brands, with some idiosyncrasies here and there based on pellet, ceramic, stick burner, sawdust burners, and full-on commercial units…

ClaytonD Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of when someone needs technical help or has a specific question on how a unit functions. Like if someone was thinking of buying a pk-100 they could PK100 and everyone would be notified who belonged to that group. We’ll end up playing around with this one for a while and maybe the way to go is to have both a Model and Style group, though I do see the potential for that to get crowded quick!

What about us diy’ers? I built a custom smoker from a commercial all stainless and aluminum refrigerator. Its 30+ cu.ft. At this time it works on 2 1000 watt hot plates which is my issue I am running short on getting it up to temp. Would like any thoughts

You could put a pellet burner in it.

smokin greg Some sort of extra insulation is probably the best thing as 2 1,000 watt plates in a 30 cubic foot smoker seems sufficient?

I have a DIY out of a cafeteria hot holding box it was 110 volt 1500 watt which would get up to around 215 degrees but took a long time. I converted it over to 220 volt and two 8 inch 2500 watt stove top burners.

So are we just thinking about creating the smoker groups, or have they actually been created yet?

IndianaJohn I have created a PK and a Masterbuilt group so far. I will work on getting a Homebuilt, Big Green Egg, American BBQ System, Weber, Traeger, Green Mountain, Rec Tec, Kamado Joes for brands.
                                &
Eventually we will have Verticle, Pellet, Trailer, Bullet, Offset, and whatever else people want.

Jonathon I think NDKoze had the best best Idea, with his categories, is it possible to create sub groups within groups for specific brands of cookers?
