What is the most unique/remote restaurant you guys have ate at? I’ll start it off with one of the best steakhouses in the United States, Perini Ranch Steakhouse. It is located on a former working ranch just South of Abilene Texas. You have to do go down dirt roads to get to it, but the food is amazing. Tom Perini the name sake of the restaurant has catered meals at the White House, and Perini Ranch was even featured in the PBS series BBQ with Franklin. They grow many of there own vegetables in gardens on the ranch, and have outdoor seating as well. Tom also has 2 cookbooks out now that I would highly recommend if you are into cowboy/coutnry cooking. It is definitely probably one of the coolest places I have ever ate.

That’s a tough one…perhaps because I’m still looking for it? I’ve had some pretty amazing meals with a view such as farms and vineyards but not in a ‘restaurant’ setting. I tend to research food and menus for hours each day. I can generally recreate something that sounds good just by reading the menu description. It helps that I have access to just about any cut of meat I can think of.

Joe Hell Perini’s does have a dish you would probably like it’s called zucchini Perini, and I’m sure you would like it!

Tex_77 I’m down with that! There isn’t anything on any of their menus I wouldn’t eat actually. I have all of the zucchini ingredients ready to go so maybe tonight. Tonight I was thinking about making a lasagna with a ‘noodle’ made from hearts of palm for a lower carb option. I might just top it with a layer of the zucchini as a 2 for 1.

          “Zucchini Perini

https://www.facebook.com/Scottis-Restaurant-Pizzeria-114466301910537/ would be mine, not out of the way or anything just amazing food in a really small but cozy environment. Last time I was home I ordered a pizza (best ever in my opinion) to go and I hadn’t been in there in about 3 years and the owner looked at me and said where have you been? Great food, great family an unreal marinara pizza!

I had the opportunity to go to Zanzibar a couple years ago after hiking Kilimanjaro and ate lunch at a one of a kind type of place, called The Rock. Food was out of this world incredible…walk to it during low tide and take a boat to it during high tide.

ClaytonD Please tell me you have pics of that hike? That’s crazy awesome, I’d love to do something like that but I recently discovered that I am either afraid of extreme heights or something. Was at Angels Landing in Mount Zion and got about half way out there and realized it WAS NOT happening! I assume your hike was full of 1,000s of foot drops right beside you?

Wife and I visited a hunting buddy in NE Wyoming last summer. He took us to a local “steak house” near Four Corners, WY back towards Camp Mallo. I don’t even remember the name but it was about 15 miles of gravel road, then a half mile down a dirt driveway to this little bar\supper club. You ordered your steak (or other meat) and also get whatever sides the cook chose to make that day, no choices. It was absolutely phenomenal! Best fillet I’ve ever had, bar none. They are only open Thursday-Saturday. The wife cooked and the husband was waiter\bar tender. Can’t wait to go back next time we are out that way.

I wish I would have read of Tex_77 location, we just spent two weeks roaming about the DFW - New Braunfels - Abilene area Jan/Feb. There are a lot of small Mom and Pop places along some back roads that I never made it all the way down. Good 'Que and food had at all. I know of a few of those similar places through out Europe. I recall one in Germany you leave the main two lane onto a much narrower two lane to a gravel road, through farm fields onto a two rut through the woods magically arriving at a gravel parking lot near a small chalet restaurant. I will be out and about in the Abilene area in about three months, if we are out of lock down, and will make an pilgrimage to the steakhouse.

YooperDog I’ve got all kinds of recommendations for places to eat in Texas. If you are down in the Fredricksburg area I hear Alamo Springs Cafe is the bomb, never been, but it’s on the list. If you are in Lockhart, Chisholm Trail is where the locals go, and it is half the price of the more famous places and just as good. Do you ever get to Amarillo? If so I can give a bunch of recommendations for there.
