Buy the biggest head size you can afford, horsepower is largely irrelevant for home processing unless you want to grind frozen items. A #32 with a big feed pan and good technique will grind 50lbs of sausage in under ten minutes. I personally really like procut grinders for the value commercially, but spending $1500 on a hobby that you’re also going to have to get a special 220v plug wired for isn’t worth it for the majority of people.

sailfaster I agree sailfaster, but I think my grand kids(who help making sausage)will appreciate the better grinder. $600-700 is not the end of the world for something that will last many life times if taken care of. Here’s how I look at it, look at what u can afford n save to buy the next better one!

craigrice For me personally it was a game changer for home processing. I only have a Kitchen Aid grinder attachment to speak of prior. Back in August I took a professional job in the ‘meat industry’ and this little grinder quickly became the shop go-to for small jobs. I really put this thing to work prior to the shop and it performed well. We have since ‘abused’ it and it keeps on ticking. If you are into 10-15 lb batches at home it can’t be heat for the price. I played with a brand new #32 tonight at the shop today and was blown away. More info coming soon!!!

sailfaster I couldn’t agree more! No matter the hobby I’ve been a part of I’ve come to the conclusion that size matters. Go big if you can afford it. It pays dividends!

You do not need a 22 for what you do. I am a sausage maker for wild game in Colorado. I have used this grinder 8 years. It is not as quick on the second grind but gets the job done. I do more sausage then you do in a day. Take look at it. I like the big pan and the easy of tear down and cleaning.Pro-Cut #12 KG-12-FS Meat Grinder

This not not your average #12 meat grinder. Designed to handle all of your meat processing needs and built with an extremely strong construction that will last for years to come. When you purchase this grinder, you will wonder why you have settled for other brands and smaller grinders in the past. The Pro-Cut #12 KG-12-FS Meat Grinder is the highest quality meat grinder available on the market at its affordable price point. It is powerful, reliable, and ready to use as soon as you take it out of the box.

Grizz What you say is absolutely true, we have done comparisons in grinding in the past and a #12 Pro-Cut will usually outperform a #22 Weston. They are awesome machines but they are a little more expensive than the #8 he was talking about but good point! Pro-cuts are designed with commercial places in mind and they stand up to it.

Njlungbuster hey, first off I’ve been grinding n making sausage for a long time. Started with my dad and his #10 hand grinder when I was about 13 I’m 62 now and this is what I think we use a #12 grinder and do 200-250# of venison a year plus I do 10-25# batches of sausage every couple of months. I’ve done 1000s of # though that grinder over the last 10 years I’ve had it. But I would go with a 22 because you don’t have to cut the meat so small-bigger throat less prep, not that much more money. My 2-cents

ziek You nailed it, a #12 is a great machine. I have the exact same story. Have had mine for 15 yrs. We grind 10 to 15 deer a year with our hunting party, and 3 0r 4 hogs. Im 65 and find myself with a little extra disposable income now, and I think im going to treat myself to a new grinder. And the winner is a #32. I know I wont be disappointed.

if you want to build it yours self I can post everything I bought from a industrial site. a True 1 H.P. motor and a 90 degree gear box to face the grinder. I bought a #32 hand grinder to attach to the gear box. It has bearings ( not plastic bushings ) on the hand crank in. But you remove the crank and attach a love joy coupler. Grinder / to gear box. I built it to the tune of $300. Out put is supposed to be 650 lbs per hour. Like you I do 15-25 lb batches. 3-4 minutes to grind it all.

I upgraded to the Weston #22 and I’ve owned every size down from there… I have a #12 gander mtn 3/4hp in moth balls right now as my backup and it can’t hold a candle to the #22. Plus if you’re doing a small batch it does a great job stuffing off the 2nd grind. #teamorange

Hey chico,I’m with u but what I don’t get is it’s not the size of the grinder or # per minute it’s the throat size. They all talk about how much u can do in a minute, but what about prep? My first grinder my uncle left me, home made, old 1 horse (huge) n a #12 Chicago head. I could throw a 2×5 inch chunk in or bigger( watch fingers) but grnd a little slower, who cares. I think if Walton’s made a 12 with a large diameter throat(at least 4 inches deep) n gear it down, that’s a winner-- less prep means faster. Pounds per minute are a marketing scam
